Louise Brooks.  I like old movies, as you might have guessed from my avatar.

Well, I can't alter my waqllpaper or screensaver as this is the most security uppity laptop ever (running through the work server too so very over zellous).

However, see my avatar for the picture that I normally have as my wallpaper.  My usual screensaver is either an engine being built in 3-d modeling and then showing the flame proporgation etc or a Suzuki race bike being built in time lapse.

Simplisticity is bliss. Then again I think I'm a bit weird, seeing as I like Death Metal and I have a sand castle with a face for a background. But it's not my computer, so if it was my own personal one I'd most likely have some female lacking in clothing and lying in a provocative position.

I've got four desktops on my 'puter, so I can have different things open at the same time without faffing with minimising and rearranging.

Clockwise from top left: Wata from Boris; some dead plants in the gardens at Alnwick Castle; the output from xPlanet, updated every ten minutes; "Hypatia", by Charles William Mitchell.

Well, Kubuntu - I prefer KDE to Gnome. I can't enthuse enough about the lack of stress since I abandoned Windows for Linux; it's so much more stable and suitable for the things I do.

Yes indeedy. Looking forward to catching Earth next week, most of the gigs I've been to in the last year or so have been doomy-droney stuff it seems.

The only difference is that it uses the KDE GUI manager instead of Gnome. The underlying kernal is the same, but there are a few differences in which software works best on each environment. If you're running one *buntu it's easy enough to put one of the others on and swap between them. The main reason I use KDE is that most of the time I'm surfing the Internet and listening to music, and Amarok for KDE is hands down the best music player software I've ever used.

Personally I love it - it's definitely the most user-friendly and non-techie GNU/Linux variant I've used. Over the years I've used a ton of different operating systems - Amiga, every flavour of Windows, Mac OS7.6 up to OSX, Solaris, Red Hat and now Kubuntu. I don't think I'd use anything else now. Just need an Xbox 360 in my room for the occasional blast on EA Skate or Halo 3 and I'd never need to leave the house! :D

It's one of the photos I took in Gamla Stan (literal translation as "Old Town") in Stockholm, Sweden. My girlfriend and I went away there last weekend.

It's just showcasing my first and only proper band shoot ever, a band called the 747's. I really miss band photography now... even if the b*sta*ds are too skint to give me pennies.
