Title: Movie recommendations needed
Post by: Peter Antal on February 05, 2008, 04:32:38 PM
Hey, can you please recommend me a comedy I can watch with my girlfriend? I'll need something really romantic - but not stupid - with a cute chick and a handsome guy, and possibly a serious conflict towards the end followed by marriage and lots of makeup sex.

I love "HITCH" with Will Smith... Really well observed female relationship psychology that is more than 98% accurate and can be appreciated equally by BOTH sexes.

Great film.

Thanks man! That's exactly the movie my gf recommended me first but then admitted she'd seen it several times before. :?

I would go for for '10 things I hate about you' all time classic!

also most girls I know are quite into the Ledger guy, and seem to be singing his appreciation even more recently. As usual, they are considered good in life, and ratings increase loads after they die :?

Funny that... I always feel better about my girlfriends finding other men attractive after they're found dead...    :?

I can't stand romcoms, apart from Honeymoon In Vegas and It Could Happen To You.  Sorry, that's my lot.

But if you want to take your girlfriend to see some Italian zombie or cannibal movies, Peter, let me know.

I recognizer her face, and could never remember what Hard Candy was about, then on the radio there was a comment, about her being from the castration film. I cannot watch Juno again now...

shivers

Also, Grindhouse stuff is usually comic, for the wrong reasons however.
Ali G in da house?

Gayest thread ever! Romantic comedies tend to all be shite in my experience, check out Pan's Labyrinth if u ain't seen it already.

Well, it won't meet your criteria much, but Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure is the single greatest film of all time. Its so much fun, with awesome music, and I'm yet to find someone who dislikes it  :D

If you are going to go for so called romcoms on DVD look for something older like Breakfast at Tiffanys, or some old Cary Grant films

Theyre way better than anything recent

I have a friend who's a bit of an authority on rom-coms, he recommends Wedding Crashers and You, Me and Dupree.

Wedding Crashers is hilarious!  :)

I thought it was great for the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes, but the hour or so in the middle (when they're staying at the big house) bored me to tears.

But it's not my kind of thing really.

Yeah I would agree to some extent. Romcoms are not my thing (honest  ), but that was about as good as they come I reckon.  :)

Partly because I think Vince Vaughn is extremely funny in general.

What about 'There's Something About Mary'? Thats pretty funny. Failing that Death Proof with Kurt Russel is a laugh! There's lots of chicks and a few fast cars!

How about any of the early KEvin Smiths? Chasing Amy is a particular favourite of mine, Down with Love, the best homage to the Cary Grant era films

Wow! Lots of good films, thank you all! We saw a recent Hungarian comedy and had a great [cough] time. With all these films on the list, this relationship had better be a long one. 8)
