Title: Looking for advice on what reverb and delay units to get.

I have my eye on the Line 6 Verbzilla and Echo Park stomp boxes. Can anyone recommend these or something else?

My price range is £70-80 new but I don't mind going for second hand.

Post by: kellar on February 08, 2008, 06:47:14 PM: I owned a Boss DD-6 for years and loved it. Simply the best stompbox delay pedal out there. As far as reverb goes, that can be difficult as I normally go for on-board reverb. With that said, I always liked the Holy Grail.

You mention reverb... you mention delay... and thats exactly what this beast is made for. Perfect, and the only FX unit i'll ever be purchasing.

Post by: froglord on February 09, 2008, 11:13:31 AM: The G-sharp is great and very good value for money. I got mine from Thomann with the free G-switch, which makes it sort of stompbox-able, but I don't think they do this deal any more.

I haven't tried the Line6 pedals, but you should be aware that due to the design they can have problems with power supplies (unless you have one of the very expensive jobbies with isolated outputs).

Post by: gamesandy135 on February 09, 2008, 02:48:01 PM: I've got a EHX Holier grail and absolutely love it. Very warm, lovely sounding reverb. You can absolutely nail the Velvet Underground sound.
That said, you might not need all the extra features so maybe a EHX Holy grail + would be better suited to you; same sounds but not got the extras like the gate.

As for delay, I've got the DD-6. It's great, but I've nothing to compare it to, never owned anything else. Does everything that I need though, and if I add in the EHX reverb, I really don't want for any other delay/reverb stuff.

Post by: Henk on February 09, 2008, 04:19:00 PM: DD3 japan here, tried alot of anolog ones, found them great for those huge sounding 70's delay solos but thats it. Very neutral/silent/no-tonesucking stompbox IMO, short delay times can get you a decent enough reverb kind of sound. Offcourse youll get a bit more out of several different pedal, but this is a nice allrounder IMO.

The japan versions are said to sound a bit warmer and have a bit less pronounced effect. I myself found the recent ones to sound a bit crispier, so i do agree with the general opinion i guess. So basically a very nice and afordable allrounder, if you need those 'huge' sounding delay effects(i could do that with dd3 and rev on the amp btw), better look on.

If your trying them out by the way be exeptionally carefull, alot have some weird oot sideeffect of shift the pitch all over the place when changing the settings or even suck alot of tone for that matter.

EDIT: just a sidetrack, if you can do with only reverb and chorus, try out the AD-3, its an acoustic guitar processor, but i also use it for solid and it is an absolute tonewizzard if you ask me.

Plenty to have a look at there. I guess I would like an analouge type feel to both delay and reverb units - that doesn't bite into the tone.

I read good stuff about this one on gilmourish.com, seems to be bang great for the buck.

I am very happy with my Reel Echo, it's cheap build but sounds very warm and thick.

I had two - Space Chorus and Echo Park - and they are very noisy, very shite.

At present, my only delay is an old DD-2 and it's $%&#ing gorgeous and I'm looking to team that with an RE-20 or a BYOC digital delay which is a clone of the awesome Digilog.

I could use my Boss GT-6 but I really want to move away from multi effect units. The GT-6 is pretty good for reverb and delay but it has a quality that I find a little too clean. It's fine for wedding covers etc but not for the Blues/Classic Rock vibe that I'm looking for.

Basically it sucks amp tone - so I wont be attempting to use that :shock:

They sound nice and warm / 'natural' to me.

Before I commit and go out and get them, I'm going to do a clip using a combination of the VOX AD30VT and Boss BR900CD onboard effects. I'll put it up for scrutiny in the Players section and see what happens.
