Title: Need help choosing an amp
Post by: Tricalibur on February 08, 2008, 06:44:11 PM
So Im graduating highschool this May and my dad has agreed to buy me any amp I want and possibly a matching cabinet. I live in Georgia and we have a large Orange dealer here. I have been considering a Rockerverb 100 because of its twin channels and plethora of available tones. But, I am also drawn towards an Electric Amp or Matamp. I have read up a little on Electric and it seems the average wait time for an amp from them is around a year. This seems completely ridiculous but after watching a youtube clip of 'Hank III' playing his I feel like an Electric will get me the tone I have been lusting after. I am not realy sure what I should do. Will a Rockerverb get me tone that is just as good? What about a Matamp GT1?

PS: I should mention that although I am heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and Doom/Stoner bands I also like to dabble in NWOBHM, AC/DC and other styles of classic rock so my amp needs to be able to handle this.

The Rockerverb 100 sounds like a great choice, or if you fancy a Matamp the 1224 is VERY flexible and will cover all styles.

Hmm I wouldn't get a RV100, I'd either go with a RV50 combo or a TV50 head if you were set on Oranges. I owned a Thunderverb 200 and it was seriously amazing, blew the rockerverbs out of the water for tone, not tried the 50W though.

But since you mentioned it.. GET THE MATAMP GT1!!!!
Just go get one.. if you don't like it, email me and I'll take it off your hands quickly for you! I wat one of those sooooo bad.

I have an RV 50 and love it, but not having tried a Matamp I can't give you a comparrison. I use an attenuator with mine (Hot Plate), if you are going for a 100w head it's probably worth considering.
