Title: anyone with blackguard flat 50 ?
Post by: misfits7783 on February 09, 2008, 05:43:14 PM
how is it ? I'm thinking of getting one next week or this week probably. I'm really into twang tele sounds. and tim said blackguard would be great. but is blackguard also warm and not thin sounding ? stock PKs in my 52 teles tend to be a bit too Thin...anyone with blackguards in there telecaster ? I would appretiate any comments on these wonderful blackguard pickups

The black guard is a great sounding tele set.  The neck is a little fatter sounding than normal, more like a strat in tone, and the bridge has a really great older tele tone.  I have played both the flat pole and stagger pole sets but prefer the flatpole for the slightly thicker tone.

We just got into playing them this week, they do have the warmth that Phil described, and the 4 way switch seems to have added an extra worth looking for.

The 4 way switch gives you the following combinations:

Bridge
Bridge & Neck in parallel
Neck
Bridge & Neck in series

The first 3 are the standard Tele switching, the last is a really great tone, with more power (think some Brian May tones).

how does bridge & neck in series work..? If I were to upgrade to 4 way switch I would have to buy a 4way pickup switcher(?)for my telecaster right ?

A thicker sound, two single coils together, adding more power, retaining a tele character. The four-way switch can be found at the Bareknuckle store.

Unless the pickups are reverse wound. 4 way switches are awesome.

Does that mean my newly acquired set of Irish Tours will have a slightly beefier sound than if they were staggered?

Oh I see.  Wish there was a dealer near me, I've been waiting almost 2 weeks for mine.   Oh well that's the price you pay for custom quality.

Nice clip by the way!
