Check this out...

it's scary to think that his hands won't have even fully grown yet. i'm also feeling sorry for his poor schoolmates who think its a good idea to 'start a band', maybe play a few Blink 182 songs or whatever and get confronted by this wailing fast-picking shenanigans - it would be pretty daunting!

I've seen that before; that kid is scary! God only knows what his reach will be when he's older!! That neck is huge, compared to him!

Amazing. :o I hope he won't lose his hearing by the age of 20.

its hard to beleave this video becuase I dont know of any kids that age that have that much strength in their hands to be able to play like that.

I know my hands and arms used to get really sore in a short while when i was his age.

Holy Moly!!!
All I was thinking about at 8 was building dens and playing footie. He must have been born with that guitar.
He might be good but do you think he actually enjoys it. I guess when he hits his teen years and starts to get the girls he will!

Hes like a Mini-Me Paul Gilbert.
Great technique and tone as well,he should have a great future in the guitar world.

Is it real or is it fake?

If it is real it's totally amazing.

There's no denying he's a good player but it's just speed for the sake of it in my opinion :)

I remember that kid. I think he made a video or two, and he was in one of Vai's vids from Passion & Warfare. 15 minutes is all you get if you can't write good songs.

GREAT PLAYING

BUT SERIOUSLY NOT THE KIND OF KID YOU WANT PLAYING ON YOUR SHOW STAND AT A GUITAR SHOW

WHICH PLAYERS WOULD WANT TO TRY GUITARS OUT ON YOUR STAND AFTER HE'D BEEN ON???

Its' bad enough following a shred-king in his 20s, but to look inept after an 8 year old is just something that nobody wants to do

Could be kind of quiet on that stand for the rest of the day

John McRocklin; very gifted young guitarist. I have no idea what became of him.

Seriously, tho, if you want to see a KICK ASS young guitarist, check out Chelsea Constable!!!

Apparently, according to one of the UK guitar mags (from a while back any road), Thomas Mc Rocklin was working in a guitar shop in the North East somewhere. I think.

Ive been playing for two months, and im like that....just alot worse...hehe.
Ive never seen the guitar as being a chore, so ive never actually had a lesson. It just came to me as a way to express myself, i could play it and be satisfied with myself. Sure ive had my ups and downs, but ive had my shred-friend help me along, and hes younger than me.
This kid surely has potentional, but its a good question if he enjoys it, i hope he hasnt been forced to play.

the kid can play, but what he's playing sucks!!! nobody else noticed?! that was boring, the tune (if there was a tune:S) was useless. He's just playing a million miles an hour, and everyone pats the kids back. i think he's totally wasted his time. he doesnt even looked stoked to be playing. (maybe i'm just jealous)
p.s. sorry to anyone who enjoys pure boring lightening speed noodling

Just taken another look, and that looks so forced.
Theres no expression in his playing, its all to key, so precise, theres no feeling!
It could be stagefright, or my own powerful jealousy, who knows...

Edit- Do'h, didn't read your post properly.. ah well, the post still makes sense on it's own

Yeah true, but as his age could you work a crowd?

He's got the chops down, apart from the bending + vibrato if I remember right (saw this video months ago from the description).. the true test will be his showmanship, and whether or not he'll be able to be charismatic on stage.. and I guess whether or not he can write his own music.

Only time will tell!

I've seen people doing some wicked noodling and stuff. And all over sudden they have to play with a band.....with drums. This strange thing called rhythm suddenly matters. And band mates.....oh dear.

Time will tell. Maybe he's a genius. What do I know?

Sure, he can play fast but thats about it to be honest. It was so boring after the first minute.. Its putting me off wanting to be able to shred, as it just bores people! I think I'll learn to play everything clearly and accurately, not at superspeed

By the way, he does play along to a backing later on in the video...

clearly very talented, but it was that sort of musical masturbation that put me off rock music for a while. obviously i'm a tad jealous that i am not that skilled. hopefully he'll improve as a musician to the extent he can play well with a band.

does anybody on here remember a kids tv show called the "8:15 from Manchester"? I think thats where Thomas McRocklin first got his exposure. There was a guy at my school (a year older) who was also on there called Gary Creedy (I think) who sadly died when he was about 17.
