Okay, I nearly got hit by GAS earlier today. My partner said that I should list all of the gear that I have now and all of the kit that I have owned and sold over the last few years just to buy another piece of kit - it made me feel a bit depressed. Here is my current set up:
1975 Fender Telecaster
1957 Reissue Strat
Laney L5T112
Boss DD3
Fulltone OCD
Zvex Seek Wah II
Not a bad little set up (IMO). The stuff I have sold on in the last 3 years is as follows:
Guitars
Gibson ES335 - wish I had never sold it
1962 Tele Custom MIJ - as above (my brother in law bought it)
Indie ILP523
Indie IRJ765 (the dragon guitar - a panic buy)
Indie IPR1 limited edition
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
MIM Strat
Washburn J6 - Wes Montgomery model
Amps
Fender Hot Rod Deville 212
Marshall AVT50
Randall TC50 (sounded great with a down tuned LP in the shop. I play rock with a strat/tele so really don't know how I ever expected it to work for me!)
Effects
Zvex Ooh Wah II
Zvex Fuzz Factory - wish I still had it
Korg G4 Rotary Speaker Simulator - ditto
Boss DS2
Boss PH3
Boss PS5
Boss BF2
Jim Dunlop Crybaby
EHX Small Clone
EHX Small Stone
EHX Double Muff
Line 6 POD XT Live
Line 6 Space Chorus - bought for £15 from Dawsons and eBayed for £30
Line 6 Tap Tremolo - as above!
Line 6 Guitar Port
Studio Stuff
Focusrite Saffire - why did I sell it? Because I wanted another guitar!!
Shure SM58 Beta
After drawing this list up I realised that had I not made the purchases that I had since sold on I would have had more than enough money to buy all of my current equipment. I would also have had money to go towards my next purchase.
My partner is a wonderful lady but she does depress me sometimes. I always explain to her that an unfortunate side effect of being into guitar related stuff is that there is always a "must have" a "bargain" a "limited edition" or "this is the last thing I will buy for a few years" reason to get more equipment.
Anyone else have similar experiences?
Off for a stiff drink now and hoping that I can manage my GAS until I have some cash saved up!!
Cheers,
Ian.
PS There may be stuff that I have sold that I have forgotten about.
PPS It's my birthday soon and my partner has approved a purchase for a set of Apaches.
-
My wife encourages me, that's worse believe me, you have someone to say, hey, maybe you shouldn't do that. I have someone that says 'Hey thats a great looking guitar..'
-
Part of me really feels for you. The other part envies you.
-
You sold an Indie? HOW COULD YOU!!!
EDIT: Can't for Twin to post a list.

Jonny
You sold an Indie? HOW COULD YOU!!!
Not just one Jonny. Very well made guitars in my opinion. Wish I still had the 523 - I sold it as I didn't think it sounded right. If I had stumbled across BK a few years ago I might have still had it!!

:(
My Indie is, metaphorically, my left nut.

I'm just about to put a bunch of stuff up for sale too......
-
Which Indie is your left nut?
There was also a stack of other stuff I had forgotten that I had owned and sold/traded on:
Gibson Les Paul Standard (although I did only own it for an hour!)
Taylor 110
Tanglewood acoustic (from the TW range)
Line 6 UX2
It just gets more depressing.

That is pretty sweet. Are they holes/contours that have been cut out by the switches? Assume it's just one volume control?
-
Yeah, it's just carved. No 'f-hole' sort of thing, only one volume. 3-way switch. And a coil tap on the bottom of the guitar (when you're playing it)
I love the fret markers cause they are actually holes directly through the neck and fretboard.

Hmmm, this could be embarrassing.
I haven't owned all that many amps or FX over the years, but I do have a list of all the guitars I've owned.
I currently own 27 guitars (give or take a missing neck or two). I've sold 31. Nearly all of them at a loss. I shudder to think how much money that adds up to.
Then again, if I smoked 20 ciggies a day it would probably have cost me, what, £20,000? £30,000? over the same time period. Maybe losing money on guitars isn't so terrible.
-
It's not Phil. Look as it as rental fees. That's what I do!

Well roughly how long do you keep guitars? And say it devalues but £100-200, something stupid. Times both then by how many you've sold, and minus a rough price of all your current guitars.
I think that's right. You don't have to do it, I don't want you depress due to my .. determination to change anything to mathematics, and/or Economics. But I'm probably blabbering.
-
Thanks Jonny, but I'm not even going to attempt the calculations. The answer wouldn't be good, however I worked it!
-
The number of people with INSANE amounts of guitars, amps, pedals, etc. in their household must live in crazy-ass mansions.
Just a random 'You know what..' moment.
-

I have been known to use that excuse on many occassions. The guy at my local guitar shop also suggested taking up smoking and then telling my partner I was giving up the habit so I could use the money wasted on cigarettes to pay for a new guitar. I like his logic.
Also forgot to mention that I once had an EHX 2880 Super Looper and Foot controller (and made a profit of £1.00 on the 335 that I sold)

In the days before I bought my beloved ENGL Invader, when I lusted after one so very badly, there was one incident that led me to believe that GAS can act very much like all those bad addictive things you hear about in school, and that when you want something so very badly, but cannot get it, you can turn into a monster of a person, much like someone reacting to withdrawal from a dependancy.
There is a housemate of mine who I don't like very much at all, but I keep it civil for the sake of not arguing every time I see her. Now then, one very fine day, after reading once again about all of the things that an ENGL Invader could do for me, and after listening to sound clips of it and viewing pictures of its oh so pretty blue lightedness, I left my room to make a cup of tea, to find 3 half eaten meals of this house mate of mine's lying around the kitchen, forming mold and a somewhat horrible stench. Now then, I have come to the conclusion that, because of my dire need to get my hands on the amp of choice, and knowing I wouldn't be able to do so for atleast another month, I went out like a rabid dog in search of this girl so as to bite her. To cut a long story substantially shorter, it ended up with her in tears, washing up all of her things, and not speaking to me for the remaining weeks I was in her presence (not that I was complaining) before going home to start dead shifts stacking shelves for stupid hours so as to afford the beast I now love so much.[/i]

Likewise! I only have a one-bedroom flat, totally packed with guitars and 27 years' worth of guitar magazines. And I wonder why I'm single.
Plus I have a couple of thousand DVDs, at least as many CDs and vinyl LPs, hundreds of books... and of course my big bundles of newspapers tied up with string.
Just kidding on the last one. :|

Ha! at least i'm not alone! over 800 dvds, similar of cds and a couple hundred lps. (that's Long Players, not Les Pauls. only seven of those  ) no idea how many books, but i have managed to get rid of newspapers!! my original passion, comics, still takes up a fair bit of space too. and, um, i'm single too
must say though, after my last relationship i'm in no hurry to put myself through that again! apparently feeling low will fuel your spending, i'm living proof!! hmm, maybe a good woman would save me money. no, i don't think they've invented a money saving woman!

Hey guys, let's do the Guitar Comunist Revolution!
Take off the guitars from people who have many to the people who have few!

I still have a white junior - it is a 65 but is a respray. The others were factory white. I kick myself a lot for selling either of them, especially the second, because I had already hunted another one down after selling the first!
