Title: Mounting a tele neck pickup to the body
Post by: badgermark on February 12, 2008, 01:27:50 PM
How do you mount a tele neck pickup to the body? I'm going to be replacing my scratchplate and dont want to drill mounting holes into it (bad experience last time, my dad almost lost a finger trying to help).

Seems like an awkward job to do, any tricks or hints to it?

personally i would rather have the mounting holes on the scratchplate but if direct mounting you just screw them directly to the body with something underneath to keep them at the right height

Stewart MacDonald do a set of screws for them with some rubber to go under the pickup (same stuff that BK use for Strats).

I've got springs under my screws.

Obvious disadvantage of mounting direct to body is you have to remove scratchplate to adjust height. Even worse if you have a 22 fret neck you may have to remove neck to remove scratchplate to adjust height  :wallbash: ( fret 22 usually 'overhangs' the scratchplate)

I was wondering if you'd get any replies on this one.  I know how the pickup attaches to the body but I have no idea how to drill the holes in exactly the right place so the pickup lines up properly with the scratchplate.

I suppose if you had a spare scratchplate with screw holes you could use it to mark the right points on the body.  But you'd need to make sure - somehow - that your drill was 100% vertical.

That was my main concern, getting it in line and adjusting height without pulling it apart every ten minutes to make sure I'm not messing up...
