Just wondering, I'm trying to order a pair of calibrated open sets of Nailbombs; Black-Bridge // Zebra-Neck(Colors are customizable too right??)
And ceramic magnet in the bridge( \m/ Nolly).
Would that cost much more money to buy? or just a little difference?
Thanks,
Kang

I apologise if this is wrong, but I don't think that will cost you a penny extra.
-
Things you dont have to pay more for:
Coloured bobbins
7 string
Double screw pole
Over/underwinds
Different magnets
Things you do:
Covers
Crazy covers
-
Yep, changing magnet doesn't cost any extra. Tim makes every pickup to order so it's not a problem.
Oh and, good choice
-
Actually, I have an open coil Cold Sweat with double screws and it cost me a bit extra. About as much as a covered version.
-
Yeah double-screw poles costs more, as does having a 7-string variant.

Strange.
I've had that three times as an extra now and its never cost me more
Edit: And I've never had a 7 varient, but I could swear that last I checked it was the same.
So far as I can tell, tim considers the material costs in such variations neglegable and adds cost for extra work (potting, ageing, heating and cooling, camo-ing, "going at it with a belt sander" etc)
Its a major reason sigle coils are so much cheaper relative to HBs than normal.

speaking of custom orders, I received mine this morning - calibrated cold sweat pair with chrome covers, one of which is a custom 12 pole cover with custom engraving. got charged £10 extra for the custom cover and £5 for the engraving - Tim told me it's usually more for custom engraving designs but as I ordered something similar to the standard bkp engraved logo it reduced the cost by a fair bit.

AWESOME BKP engraving
I should've ask my nailbomb to be engraved too...
-
I know, I'm delighted with it :D I could easily have gone for the standard bkp engraved logo for no extra cost but my style has always been more on the subtle side so I figured I'd get something that fit in with that, and also is a little bit unique as well

AWESOME - never seen that engraving before; that would look awesome if someone was going for some matte black EMG styled pickups

UPDATE:
Ignore me, I'm an idiot.
I spoke to tim about the price variations:
The double screw pole is £99 (9£ extra), the same as a covered pickup and the same as a 7 string. (standard single screw, open coil is 90, as we all know)
Apologies for the misinformation (this is accurate, though: its 20 minutes since I heard it from Tim).
In other news:
BKP are doing 8 strings!!
115 of your earth pounds!!

Hehe, awesome MDV. Thanks for the updates!

i already have plans for one of those!!!, just trying to decide on things like scale length and bridge design... it really deserves to be fanned fret which means paying a hell of a lot for the bridges unless i can make one (may be stealing doug from black machines idea and using wilkinson saddles screwed to a plate). something like 25.5-27" scale lengths should work well!!
or do i just go for an 8 string hipshot bridge which are quite nicely priced but would probably need a long scale to keep tension nice. who knows.
the only thing i know is i have 11 spare sperzel tuners, i dont really want to make a six string and have 5 spares but making a 8 string and having 3 spares hanging around doesnt feel so bad
-
If they carry on this way I could get a 9 course Lute pickup :D - Warpig for Lute = cool

Sounds awesome Wez! Although what do you think the tuning is going to be on that monster? If the 8th string is drop F# then it should probably be a longer multiscale, maxed out at 28" maybe, everything will sound a lot sharper. I have been talking to a lot of extended range players recently and they almost all concur on this note (no pun intended).
-
your quite right, 28" seems to be optimal for the low strings, but other factors play a part too - i might just get away with 27" on the eight if its strung through the body. Its going to be a balance between getting two scale lengths that are comfy and also function well. I havnt considered the tuning too much yet ... still early planning stages
-
It made me, briefly, want to buy an 8 string!
Until I remembered I dont play my 7 string

i can't wait. Down the road i will be happily strumming an 8 stringer, might even be asking around your neck of the woods depending on prices and, of course, aesthetics. That is, of course, if i don't build one myself first :D
