My latest guitar arrived this morning, a Patrick Eggle Berlin Plus. It's a hardtail and has a one piece amber flame maple top.
I havent had a chance to take any of my own pics yet but the pics that prompted me to buy it can be seen over at the Eggle forum,

:D That looks fantastic ! how much was it ?

Gorgeous!
Price?
-
You nosey buggers!
Looks great :) They have quite a small body don't they?
-
It cost £599.
I was happy at the price. I've just been playing it for a couple of hours. It's a wonderful little beasty :D
Yeah the body is small but it seems to have no effect on the tone. It's slightly lighter toned than my Les Paul but that's what I was after all along.
Once I get the strings off it and see what Pickups are actually in it, I'll decide if it needs BKP's or not. My plan was to put Rebel Yells into it but it sounds wonderful with the stock pup's

Happy with it then? :D
I was suprised about how small the body is, but like Kylie, small and perfectly formed.
-
Very nice!
The figuring on the top is going in every direction! Coool.
-
Come on Dave, Machinehead's shown you his, now get yours out

This guitar looks like the pure sex!!

It was an ebay special. I had been watching a few and this went up as a £599 buy it now on Sunday night. I figured that If I had left it, then it would be gone in the morning.
As for the top, it seems to have a flame and a grain combined. I haven't seen anything like it before.
Hmmm ... Maple Flame-Grain?
Sounds like a breakfast cereal :D
I'm just about to put elixirs on it and see what the pup's actually are. I'm pretty sure they're SD's and from the tone they may be a Custom Custom bridge and SH1 '59 or Alinco II PRO neck.
And yeah TM, I am liking it. It's a little cracker :)
-
very nice! congratulations!
-
Very nice score!
10+ on the top :aww:
-
It's a lovely looking guitar, and I'm glad you like it.
They really are excellent guitars
-
When i told you that mine was the nicest Eggle I'd seen, I'm not too sure now  Been looking at that top again and it's spot on.
Mine still needs buffing, so I'm hoping that it comes out with figure somewhere near that (not looking likely though). After hours of buffing I've decided that it really needs someone else to do it. I'm a bit 10 thumbs in this department. Here's pics of mine when I got it:

Can't actually remember what pics are there as I can't see any photobucket photos at the minute

haha, i have no pics yet. wait a few days, and I might manage it. :)

liek OMGz me wantz :o
-
The scary thing is now that I have one Eggle ... I may want more
I'm already casting my eye around for a Patrick Eggle Vienna .....
In the meantime what I'm looking for is Berlin owners, who have put BKP's in them. I'll start a new thread on that topic.

Don't rush into it! I've made that mistake many times (not with Eggles, I hasten to add).
Lovely guitar!
-
You're right of course.
I'd be much better off sourcing a Vienna and trying it first, as I've never even played one. I'm only going by the excellent reports on it.
At least with the Berlin I had played a few over the years.
Still ... If one appears on ebay, in good condition - or I stumble across one in a guitar store, I can't be held responsible for my actions ..... :crazy2:
-
She's a beaut :)

The Berlin is as sweet as a nut. The ease of play is astonishing - it's effortless. I have a Les Paul and a Strat and this totally blows both away.
I gave the Berlin an overhaul today, doing the usual cosmetic stuff and restring and also I had a look at the pickups. They are SD Custom Custom in the bridge (as I suspected) and a SD Pearly Gates in the neck, which threw me a bit as I wasn't expecting to see it there.
All in I'm pretty pleased and impressed.

The Custom Custom & Pearly Gates was offered for a while if my memory serves me at all well which it seldom does. Unfortunitely I have Armstrongs in mine :( Personally I'm considering Crawlers for my Berlin as I'm a little worried that mules would be a little bright (I have a maple neck on mine)
I'm also interested in trying a Vienna (I think it would have a bit more of a LP tone), but I'm afraid that I would end up wanting one.

Dave have you boght another Eggle ?

I haven't tried one and I already want a Vienna
The SD's sound very nice, although a part of me is thinking of what BKP's would sound even better in a Berlin. I'm looking for a smoother, more liquidy tone - if that makes sense. The Emeralds in my LP give me all the bite I need - more bite than the SD's in my Berlin
My guitar tech has already told me that he'll take the SD's off my hands if I do go for BKP's.
I'm tempted already ...

i don't think the vienna sounds like a LP. it sounds a lot more open, a bit more air to the tone, and a bit brighter. I think... at least mine doesn't, anyway. granted, new pickups could probably push it the way of a LP.

haha, maybe. I got a second-hand '93 new york pro on ebay. Seems pretty nice, quite quirky, i'd need to put new strings and set it up, though. Might try that tonight.
i actually nearly bidded on that (supposedly) new new wave stage last night, but it jumped up in the last few minutes. Was a newer one, but based on my vienna and the other one i tried in the emporium, would still have been a good deal, if that's what you were after. I only really wanted it if i got it at a silly price, to be honest. shame it went up though, it was near enough the exact colour i wanted too.
-
What sort of price did it go at, in the end?
For what it's worth, the "Handwound" P-90's in early New Wave guitars were made by some fella called Tim Mills.
I'm quite sure you wouldn't be interested in This (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PATRICK-EGGLE-NEW-WAVE-PRO-GUITAR_W0QQitemZ220185359582QQihZ012QQcategoryZ2384QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem)

^ I would, but I don't like the colour. I'd seen that one already, haha. But thanks.
the other one went for £410, I think (+ whatever postage was). Still a good price, no doubt, just I didn't want to go that high. EDIT: considering I'd just bought another eggle about 3 days previously and wasn't too sure about the wisdom of buying two so close together, unless I got an awesome deal.

I thought your Eggle was chambered (if it's the one that I remember from the Emporium) where as the older ones are completely solid. Though I havn't played one the seem to be described as a bit thicker sounding than the Berlin, purely through the larger body (but I could be wrong).
I really like the New York modelsm I was playing one with a set of 3 Burns trisonic pickups installed (very Brian May tone).
I tried that Wave that Headtheball pointed out (it's really comfortable, pretty & very light)
-
oh, my eggle vienna from the emporium is semi-hollow, it's the red one with the f-holes. i tried their other (honey sunburst) one which (i think you said) was chambered, but I liked my own better. :) and they sounded pretty similar, so I didn't want both
yeah, the new york seems pretty nice. quite strange (kinda like a hybrid of an SG, tele and strat, if you can believe that), but nice. need to set it up though. :)
that new wave looks nice, only i'd like it if it were cheaper, and I really don't like the colour, lol. just doesn't suit it, in my opinion. Would be nicer in green or aquamarine, that type of colour. :D
-
Waves do look great in Green-Blue colours. I remember seeing one in "Guitarist" that was just spot on looking in that kind of colour.
Oddly, though, It had a "German Carve", which doesn't seem to be a feature on my own Wave, nor any others I've seen...

If you bought yourd from the Guitar Emporium, apparently the ones they had where all prototypes for the current revised designs. So I would assume that yours may be in that group.
Yeah Waves in Blue / green are the best looking ones
Dave: I forgot yours had f holes (I so liked your guitar when I tried it), and it was so light too.

yep, that's the one.
I was told mine was a prototype too, rob. No idea if that's true or not of course. EDIT: thanks for the kind words, rob. yeah, it's nice and light, which is cool. :)
-
the "New Wave" i got from the emporium was a kind of reverse blueburst, blue at the edges to natural in the middle. it and the Berlin Evo 22 i got there were both claimed to be prototypes. later i e-mailed Eggle to enquire about cases and they wanted to know the serial numbers, i said there were none and that i had been told they were prototypes. they said that was impossible and wanted to know where i'd got them! i stopped e-mailling then
-
mine actually does have a serial number, which makes me wonder if it is a prototype. i'm just annoyed i didn't realise the emporium had eggles sooner (or more accurately, realised how nice they were!)
-
Blue : When I was speaking to one the Emporium guys he mentioned that they where bought after a trade show from a Eggle rep, and that they had had a some grumpy phone calls from the company. Perhaps the rep made some money on the side ?
Yeah I like your reverse blue burst
It really dosen't say much for the current company (I'm thinking of a phrase that involves the words arse and elbow)
Dave : I'm still grumpy that I didn't get my bonus and years OT payments in time to buy the one you got, and I wasn't entirely happy with the coffee coloured one that they had for ages. Still at least theres a lot of good quality Eggles at decent prices
Any for the original thread I think Mules or Crawlers would be a good direction to head in (but I'm biased). As I can't help thinking that the maple topped Berlin is quite a bright guitar usually.
Though a berlin stage (all mahogany) may cope with RYs a bit better.
-
yeah, i was told they bought it at namm (or after namm?). Not sure. either way it's a nice guitar.
Some good deals on ebay at the moment, though. the berlins seem to go between £400 and about £600, depending on model and condition. :)
