I have noticed within the last month or so that everything above about the 12th fret on my Les Paul is starting to sound flat. There is no fret buzz, it just doesn't ring and sustain. It sounds quite flat and quacky, if I must say. Below that everything rings out beautifully, just when I go to access the higher frets. It has become quite obvious.
It's not a bridge issue, as I play with the strings quite high in the first place and there is no fret buzzing involved.
Could this be a neck issue? I am thinking a truss rod adjustment may be needed to bring the neck up a bit. I think it is arching back and causing the problem towards the end of the fret board.
I can't say that I have ever had to adjust my truss rod.
Anyone care to chime in??

generally the truss rod is responsible for the lower half of the neck, and the bridge for the upper half (I'm generalizing here, and there is a balance to be found between them as well), so if the first frets ring OK then the bridge is probably too low.
option 2 is that one of your pickups (probably the neck) is set too high, thus disturbing the string (magnetic pull).
good luck
