This PRS Mira looks but I wonder just how dark it will sound? More pics are on this site.

Yeah the vintage mahogany is one of my favourite finishes for the Mira.
Not sure if I follow you on how dark it will sound though? All the Miras are Mahogany... ?
-
Yeah but this one just looks like really, really dense mahogany and being a PRS it'll be top quality stock mahogany.
I dunno, for me it gives the impression of a very dark natural tone. I'm not saying that's bad mind you.
-
Ah, I see. Well I have no idea as far that is concerned.
That particular example looks remotely similar to Twinfan's new Mira actually. So he might be able to provide some sort of insight.
-
Dave's is made of quite dense mahogany (with a swirly pattern too, as it happens, as Sambo said) and he says it's very clear-sounding.
Mine's more of a lightweight and I find it quite warm sounding, certainly on the bridge pickup.
We haven't actually compared though - we might just have different perceptions of "bright" and "dark".
(EDIT: Bloody hell, that picture's giving me GAS and I've already got a Mira!! :( )
-
Yeah, great looking Mira. Similar to mine!
Mine is anything but dark, it's resonant and clear.

O.....
god...
why???
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
GAAAAAAAAAAAASSS!!!
*drools all over self*
"where's the towel?"

I bet that resonates like a bar-steward......
-
the grain on that one is amazing!
Are they planning on doing a trem version?
-
No trem version - the body is too thin.
I'll have to get some good pics of mine done if I can:

I suppose they might be able to make a special short block for the trem, but there wouldn't be a whole lot of wood left between the spring cavity and the pickup cavity. I guess it's a no-no.
I know I keep going on about it, but I'm hoping for a 22-fret version.

 You've got a really bad case of GAS Philly!!
I still don't find these Miras attractive. Am I weird? :?
-
Yes you are indeed weird and need professional help :D
-
I thought that one was sold (if same am thinking of) and was posted elsewhere weeks ago.
As for sound, imo, it's a mix of SG and more modern LP. I also believe they are same pups as in my SC245 (but it's VERY early here so my brain is not firing on all cylinders yet, java time).
-
Yep, they're uncovered SC245 pups.
I find them similar to my Riff Raffs, or maybe an Alnico V Stormy Monday? They're low output and clear.

'Tis true. It's because of that lovely wood grain. If you look at the "vintage mahogany" one on the PRS website it just looks like poo brown, very boring.

Low output but sound VERY different in my 245, very vintage,thick/chewy = WOW

^All this bloody PRS talk is hurting my brain.
My next guitar will be a PRS- no question.

But I need a new amp first!... Well I don't... but I want one.
But my next GUITAR... my next guitar will be a PRS, oh yes.
-
< is not holding breath :P
-
I'm not very reliable am I?
Well if you would not sell your Singlecut trem, and wait until I have enough cash (HOWEVER long that may be ), then I can GUARANTEE my next guitar will be a PRS. 8)
(I personally think you should just lend it to me indefinitely though. 8) )

Getting off topic!
Could some PRS-owner tell me the measures of the headstock of PRS??? I'm going to build the neck of this Warmoth body, with a PRS headstock:
-
I am presuming the se headstocks are the same here
width
at nut 11/16
widest point 3" 5/8
at lower top piont ( right handside as you look at it ) 2 3/16
lenght
from back of nut to widest point left hand side 1" 1/8
from back of nut to widest point right hand side 1" 3/16
from back of nut to lenght point left hand side 5"1/2
from back of nut to lenght point right hand side 6" 1/16
from back of nut to centre 5" 5/16
these are only rough measurements
I hope they help

I like that body shape, reminds me of a Gibson L5-S:

Phill, the name at Warmoth of it is exactly L5S :D
I like it, but I thought it would be bigger... it's not much more wider than a LP and looks "shorter" than...
These guitar will have Mules A4, rosewood neck and fingerboard with birds inlay (not bolt on, I'll do it glued, deep set neck)... MUCH work is coming!

Ah, I should have looked on the Warmoth site, shouldn't I?
Sounds great Fernando, show us pics when you've built it!

Jesus Christ Twinfan, this one must have just gone under my radar  You got ANOTHER GUITAR?
-
Yup - hence the gear clearout!
