hi all im new to the forum, but have been playing bare knuckles since april and since then there is no looking to any other pickups!!!
i need your help finding a cool marshall amp around £300-400 it needs to be loud for gig (we have a very loud drummer grrrr to him) but ok for practicing at home, i do loads of harmonic stuff (i heard valve amps are good for this) but i also play loads of different styles: folk to heavy and everything in between.
atm i have a Marshall MG30DFX it ok for home stuff but for gigs i borrow my friends MG250DFX
any help would be great :P
Nalbombs rule if you dont have them buy them :D
cheers guys

Welcome FiXXer!
Are you looking for a combo amp? Or just a head?
-
I've got both a JCM 800 50watt head and a JCM900 100watt 1 x 12 combo up for grabs!
-
how much are you after for those Tim?
Fixxxer i've got a 40w Ashdown Fallen Angel valve combo going, its brutal for rhythm work, but not THAT good for leads (its cool with an eq pedal though on the leads).
Not a Marshall, but does pretty much any crunch sounds you need, especially being boosted with an SD-1!!

thanks for the replies.
i would like a combo, but a head would be fine also (just need to find a cab)
but i dnt have that much to spend  only around £300 to £400

Hi FiXXXeR,
Sorry to go a little off topic here, but I was given a free Marshall MG250DFX and find it hard to get a good sound out of it. Do you see a difference using the BKP's. I find the clarity is lacking with my guitar and stock SG pickups.
I too wanted a Marshall tube amp but found anyone that was worth getting was out of my price range. I got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe instead. I find the deluxe and Deville are great for cleans and sound awesome with any pedal you want to use.
If you are tight on a budget, I suggest taking your guitar and pedals and go to a store and try out the deluxe and Deville. You might be surprised how great they could do distortion. Plus you wont have any issues with a loud drummer....

Shag101 i got quite a cool sound from the MG250 il send u my settings if you like, il give the fender a go but i really like the plug and play you get with marshall as i hate pedals i used a modded vox wah and a soon a whammy thats it, so i really need a 3 channle amp. i heard the DSL 401 combo is good but dunno how loud it is.
HJM i cant see the thread it say it doesnt exist

FiXXXer, you need 100 posts to see that thread.

oh Shag101 the BKP make a real of a difference i have nailbombs in bridge and neck will never look to any other manufacturer :D
also the wah make it sound amazing and dimazio pots give a very sencitive volume and tone selection.
i can go clean to mild distortion to overdrive just using the guitar volume and that on MG30 solid states overdrive channel with gain at half is very good in my book
i post some clips this evening prob of the sound i can get  :guitar4:

Hi FiXXXeR,
Thanks for the replies. I guess I will just have to fiddle around with it some more.
If you dont use pedals and use the amps od for distortion then the fender is not the way to go. I hear changing out the tubes from eurotubes.com could make the fender distortion more usable, but nothing like a marshall tube head or combo.
I also heard good things about the DSL 401. never played one...
I read someplace the 401 is really a 2 1/2 channel amp. It has a clean channel, and then od/1 and od/2. The 2 od channels are kind of one. The od/2 is just a "more drive" type thing. Such as found on Fender Hot Rods. It uses the same eq settings.
