Post by: silentrage on February 26, 2008, 03:16:13 AM
As a tribute to slash I'm making a portrait of him in 3D, and I'd like to hear what you fellas' opinions are on his most symbolic guitar.
I'll have some pics to show later, so Chime in!!

Cheers :)

The '87 standard with fag burns etc.  That's the guitar I always associate with him.

Serial number: 81757532  ;)

Gotta be his Les Paul copy, aye... and he has to have it hoisted sideways and pointing to the skies, top-hat on and a ciggie hanging from the corner of his mouth.

The Gibson '87 Les Paul Standard as Twinfan says.

yes, it has to be the les paul copy he used on apetite... i head from an interview from slash that gibson are going to be making him a firebird to replace his BC rich.. so i assume it wil have a floyd on it... or some heavy duty trem... that could be interesting, i think its gonna be made into a sig aswell... im not a fan of the BC rich at all. not that i want a firebird with a trem on tho

He has two '59 replicas - a Max and Derrig - both acquired arounbd the time of AFD in '86ish.

Max:

Derrig:

In my opinion, neither are as famous or as iconic as the '87 standard.

Nope, the Derrig is the AFD guitar.  Tonewise, that's the iconic Slash Les Paul.  Image wise for a picture, it's got to be the '87 Standard for me  :)

I'd say soundwise his no1 but image wise I always remember the tobacco burst les paul from the November Rain video where he's outside the church.

Are you guys REALLY saying you can hear the difference between the Les Pauls he used whenever? You must have pretty good ears...
But yeah i'd go with the tobaccoburst in November Rain too

Nope - not saying that at all Indy!  Just saying which guitar he used for AFD for reference.  Slash sounds like Slash to me, whatever he's playing.

According to slash's book the guitar used to record AFD was made by the late Jim Foot.

An error on Slash's part.  Jim Foote owned the music shop where Kris Derrig was a tech.  Derrig built LP replicas while he worked there.
