Here's a new Emerald clip.
I've revamped my setup after a bit of a hit and miss at the weekend, which I've since deleted, and I'm much happier that the true nature of the Emeralds is on show here.
The guitar is my usual Gibson Les Paul, recorded onto a Boss BR-900CD digital recorder.
I'm not using the BR-900 effects here.
The effects / amp modelling are supplied by something completely different, and in my opinion much better. The amp model is a medium gain Soldano 100 with a touch of simulated Tubescreamer distortion, plus reverb, delay and compression.
Does it sound like a Soldano/Tubescreamer? I have no idea but it sounded pretty good to me :D
Despite all the effect layers I was pleased to clearly hear the warmth and bite of the Emeralds driving the tone.
I went for a tone that highlights the hot PAF nature of these pickups and had Thin Lizzy / Brian Robertson /Gary Moore in mind when I was dialling the tone in but ... from the results I think I got somebody else altogether
Pickups used in the clip are as follows.
Middle position 00:00 to 00:46.
Bridge position 00:46 to 01:12
Neck 01:12 to 01:27
Bridge 01:27 to the end
Cheers
*** EDIT ***
I'm only playing the lead here.
**** Update 16/03/08 ****
I've added a second clip 'Emerald smooth 2'. It's the same backing, played a little differently.
It's recorded on my BR900 again but this played through a Vox Tonelab LE, using the Marshall Plexi amp model and Klon Centaur pedal model.
I wanted to show the consistency of the Emeralds, through very different effects. The second clip has more edge, no compression and is deliberatley less smooth. It's perhaps verging on thin but the point is to show that even though the effects are different, the distinctive tone and bite that the Emeralds give are still clearly there.

Nice clip
-
reminds me of santana a bit, really nice smooth tone to it.
-
so what effects you using? tonelab?

Sorry, I forgot that bit.
It's my trusty Boss GT-6. It's not normally known for it's good drive models but I kept the gains and distortion low and it seems to do the trick.
I haven't got the Tonelab LE yet. The store wont have them in until Thursday.

Boss ain't bad at all..

I'm getting a 404 error, has it been deleted?

I'm not sure what happened there but I've reattached it now.

WOW, this is by far your best clip. This sounds professional man!

+ 1 very smooth

Update in the initial post.
The new clip is 'Emerald smooth 2', although it's really not that smooth.
Turn it up for best listening on a flat EQ

It was fan-dabby-doosie. Lovely stuff MH.

+2 for the Santana reference - I think it's the phrasing.
Like the sound of Emeralds, being as I am a life long Gary Moore devotee.
Great clips.
Mark.

+3 for the Santana....That GT-6 sounds good too, very good recording(s) and playing!
Hmmm..that's something I've never seen...under quality (type of recording) on my player it says "VBR"? what is that? video bit rate maybe?
The quality of that pup shines through on either unit.

What's the chord progression in the backing track?

Hmmm..that's something I've never seen...under quality (type of recording) on my player it says "VBR"?
it means variable bit rate. usually mp3's are 128kbps cbr (constant bit rate) but with vbr its only using how much the song needs at the time. a good idea in theory but many players don't like vbr files so it is rarely used.

I've got some Emeralds on the way for my Explorer - I'm getting excited now.

Ah....thank you :)

Whoooo - great clips.
Thought I'd check 'em out after my Explorer pickup question. This is leaning me towards Emeralds now!
HEAVIER THAN HELL - what made you go for Emeralds, and what type of Explorer is it? I'm sure I've seen this discussed somewhere but I can't remember, apologies. And in an effort not hijack this thread, here's the question I posted: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12040.
