Title: Feedback, hum, and hiss.
Post by: downrodeo on March 01, 2008, 08:51:17 PM
I've having some major issues with feedback from my DSL 100 half stack, which is weird because I've got a Boss NS-1 and an ISP decimator. My effects loop has the ISP in it at the end and the chain goes: Boss CH-1-->DD-6-->BBE Sonic Maximizer-->Boss Equalizer-->Decimator. Straight into the front end I've got my Keeley OD-2 into a Boss NS-1. I have no idea why the hum is so bad. It could simply be a bad cable, or the THD hotplate I've got. I'll have to investigate.

plug direct into the amp - is the hum still there?  if so, it's your amp making the hum (take it to a tech)

As above, if the noise is in your effects loop then take out one at a time and see what happens.

Another thing to try is to run your effects off batteries. My wife had bad hum in her effects loop, ran everything off batteries and the hum went away.

Or from a decent power supply unit, these line 6 adaptors are fab! but i only use one or two at once, so it wont do for most people.

Tell me if i'm wrong but shouldn't the decimator go first (to sort out the hum etc from the preamp) and the sonic maximiser the absolute last, just before the power amp?

That was my first thought.

Try taking your Sonic Maximiser (if you're using the Stomp version) off your daisy chain power supply.

I had mine humming like a bar steward and thought it was the Blackstar Dual.  Through a bit of testing I found it was the BBE Sonic Stomp and gave it it's own power supply.

Problem fixed  ;)
