Title: Cabinets
Post by: Emperor on March 02, 2008, 05:59:36 PM
Hey guys. since i've got my c-warpig and nailbomb, my tone improved ALOT, pretty much more than if I just changed my head (have a JSX) ;p

Now, the other day I hooked up my JSX to my friend's mesa 4x12, and WOW. Sounded so much better than my 6505 cab, Tighter Bass response, highs aren't harsh anymore, mids are powerfull, and defintion (peavey has none)

Was thinkin' bout Vader cabs, they're a lil less pricey (im in canada) than Mesa.

Any other options ? VHT ? Soldano? Basicly i'm looking for something with powerful and tight bass response, lots of definition. I play something which could be considered as progressive brutal death metal btw.  And I can't try out soldano, vht, vader here.  stores only have mesa, marshall and peavey.

Thanks alot

I did the same!

I used to have a 5150 II with matching 5150 cab, had it for a few years, then i bought a mesa recto cab, and wow!

You might want to try orange cabs, they use v30's just like the mesa recto cabs

Orange and Bogner cabs are superb - But pricey.

I played through a Diezel Cab with K-100s a while ago - sounded brutal.

I don't know the 6505, but if the build is ok you could just replace the speakers to save a little money, but I think you need a solid built cabinet or thats a false economy.

I have an Orange 4x12, it's built like a tank and sounds geat, they aren't cheap, but I don't think they are over priced. That said mine was built in the UK and so there are no import costs.

The Orange cabs are fantastic. If you're looking at Soldano and VHT cabs, their price will probably be quite agreeable for you.

i just got a mesa standard slant today from a guy who traded his orange cab to get it. he said the orange cabs are really dark in comparison.

I love by my bogner ubercab for the sort of thing youre talking about.

Mesa oversized is the industry standard for metal, though.

But then thats because its so ubiquitous. I like the Ubercab better.

The 5150III cab is very good and at an OK price for that kind of quality. It has 5150 branded G12M25 Heritage type speakers which alone would cost more than the cab actually. It sounded very full and tight, not the huge bass you would get from a V30 loaded Bogner, but a very good sound for band context.

I think mongotone would be the best choice if you can afford, as hunter has pointed out to me, they seem like the best of the best.

my friend was playing through someone else's live rig on stage and played through some Vaders;  he said they were perfect.  From second hand knowledge, i would recommend them!

from first hand knowledge, playing everything from all sorts of rock (all kinds of u2) right the way through too all sorts of metal (children of bodom, iron maiden, metallica, slayer, stone sour), and side by side'ing them for 8 months with 4 different amp heads, a hundred different pickups/guitar combos, and i need to say this.

mesa recto cabs are shite.

well not really, but in comparison, the framus dragon cab, at all volumes, in EVERY situation just slayed the recto cab. at least check it out.

I've been hearing loads about these here vader cabs lately.

I wanna know what the crack is! I tried to find them but it looks like UK dealers are non-existant

And I like my Uberkab.

Just ordered a "showroom model reduced" Marshall 425 VM straight cab, with the Hendrix-type greenbacks in it, 380 GBP incl  delivery, I couldn't resist  8)

Anyone wanna buy my H&K Triamp cab with 4x12 Greenbacks? It's pretty beaten up but sounds rather good ... those are top built from wood and joint quality.

Well, I'll first try the Marshall in comparison before I decide though :O)

I think you might find the Marshall cabs are not up to your quality expectations, Hunter.  They may work well with those G12C speakers though?

Funny, there was a technical problem with the credit card payment, so they cancelled the order.

Maybe I should take that as a hint of fate?

Actually the H&K cab sounded awesome last night, the Marshall would just be for the looks. Maybe I should mod the H&K towards Marshall looks :O)

I'd see if you can try a cab out locally before buying one?
