Title: What would YOU do in this situation?
Post by: Brow on March 03, 2008, 07:57:23 PM
Hey guys.

I got an Ibanez S470 in metallic purple last week and really like it (more than I thought I would to be honest).

In fact, I've decided that I'm going to keep the Ibanez and sell on my modified Charvel Fusion Special:

The Ibanez (apparently) has Dimarzio pickups in it (I know for sure that they're not stock) while the Charvel has a Cold Sweat in the bridge and a Trilogy Suite in the neck.

I'm toying with the idea of taking the CS and Trilogy out of the Charvel, putting them in the Ibanez, and then getting a CS neck to complete the HSH set. I can then put the DMZ's (if that's what they are), in the Charvel ready for selling.

Thing is, the Ibanez has a very thin body, and I'm thinking that maybe a CS bridge may be too bright, even though it's a Mahogany body. I've had it on good authority that a Nailbomb or 2 should work well in this guitar, but that's obviously a bigger outlay of money to buy a whole new set of pickups than it would be to just buy a CS neck pickup. The money thing isn't the main factor in the decision, but it is something to consider.

I ask you all this; if you were in this position, what would you do?

I'd certainly try to keep hold of the BK's.

If it were me I'd put the BK's in the Ibanez and live with them for a while before I decided what to do, as long as you are not desparate to sell the Charvel.

My wife has a Nailbomb bridge in her Ibanez S2170FW and it works really well (MQ in the neck).

I think the S series was made so that it sounded thick as fook even though it is thin.

That's the idea, not sure it works completely, but it's not a bad attempt.

By the time i've posted this you could've just soldered in that CS bridge and seen weather you liked it or not ;)

But yeah, +1 for ailean's suggestion.

How much would you be selling that Charvel for?

"How much is that Charvel in the window, the one with the waggly trem?"

I'm now off to shoot myself for coming up with something sooooo corny

Hey guys.

Thanks for your opinions :)

On 2nd thoughts I may actually have to keep the Charvel afterall

I tried out for a band on Saturday that play some songs in C or C#, which would mean stringing a guitar heavy and keeping it down tuned the whole time.

The Charvel is the only guitar I have that fits the sound I'd need for those songs, and is also the only 1 I'd be prepared to leave in a tuning that I wouldn't use all that much.

So I guess time will tell whether I keep or sell it

Either swap the pickups out or make damn sure you adjust the price of the guitar you're selling to account for how much they cost.
