Much better than the reverse V...
But my GOD, what is with that fugly headstock and fugly scratchplate? Way to blow a good idea... stop fannying around and sort out the quality on the stock guitars. Gimps.
-
Shades of the Moderne on that headstock alright.
Even as an aficionado of ugly, thon's a step too far for me. If I'm not mistaken (I probably am) It's straying a bit close to a few 70's/80's Guilds as well.
-
The tuners look fun anyway, if that is the steinberger gearless ones
reminds me of the reverse firebird, or the non reverse one... erm, the one that looks more conventional / stratish
-
What the hell.
That's all I'm thinking.
-
man that thing is awesome! Headstocks naff but the rest is pretty damn cool I think.
-
That is a joke. Nothing more.
-
Holy Cr@p!!!! .....
Does that come with a brown paper bag to put over your head, when you're playing it live?
I'm a fan of Gibson but that ... thing ... looks like friggin ugly :(
-
If the scratchplate actually lined up with the hardware + the edges of the body, and if the headstock was made to look less like it was designed by a blind leper-child then... I think it would look absolutely fantastic...
-
I think it has been made from ugly sticks glued together.
-
That is.... AWESOME!
Honestly one of the funkiest guitars I have EVER seen.
NEVER FORGET TO SPELL WITH THE LIGHTNING BOLT!
-
Headstock: No, just No.
Body: Not a fan of the explorer shape but ok.
Scratch plate: Nice idea, but as mentioned, get the lines right!
Colour: This is not a good colour for this guitar, maybe in black, with an unpolished metal scratch, dark fret board etc.
Back to the drawing boards Gibson...
-
Yeah, the scratchplate would look awesome if the angles matched up with the wings... but seeing as it doesn't... no sale.
Urgh.
Next up, probably a reverse LP.
-
I can see the guys out of Electric Six wanting one of these.
But that's about it.
I can see the potential though, just about...
-
Would it be entirely cynical to suppose Gibson is using this and the reverse V to mop up an overbuild of Left-Hand bodies?
-
^HAHAHA!
That is like the holy grail of cynicism. I salute you sir.

You know something? .... You may be right there, with the leftie explorer body theory but to deepen this conspiracy a bit more, take a look at this Moderne - a right handed Moderne - and look closely at the headstock.
Ignore the tuner placement.
.... and compare.

Notice anything?

-
Eeek!
But what does that mean exactly?!
-
The headstock on the new guitar has a left handed Moderne neck.

I was just thinking that's one of the ugliest, most ridiculous guitars I've ever laid eyes on (and spot on, HTB, about the surfeit of left-hand bodies).
Then I saw them... the inlays at the 5th and 12th frets. Just look at those things, and tell me have you ever seen anything more totally$%ingstupid in your entire life?
Gibson really are taking the piss.
-
^^LOL!
Okay, so... left handed explorer bodies, left handed Moderne necks.
Bang them together, knock up a scratchplate (and some distressed pickup covers?)
What are the tuners? Are they the Steinberger ones? Have they used them on any other guitars?
Could this be an almost entirely spare-stock guitar!?
More freaky animal pics needed!!!!!

Drink half a bottle of vodka.
Then find the ugliest, palest, most dried-up piece of rosewood in your scr@pwood pile, and make it into a fretboard. Scribble in between some of the frets with a black marker.
Drink the rest of the bottle of vodka.
Then slap all the parts together and call it a "Guitar Of The Month". Don't worry, they'll buy any old shitee.
Laugh all the way to the bank. And on the way, have a think about what we can do with those old Corvus bodies. And those funny slanted Nighthawk pickups.

You mean to say that you've never seen the Dramatic Prairie Dog?

What the hell.
That's all I'm thinking.
More like What the hell. were THEY thinking!
-
But......
Its a very rare custom build Gibson
-
what the hell indeed?!
i don't know what to think... its certinally striking.
-
Striking... I'd like to strike whoever came up with the idea... right in the face with a breezeblock.
-
i wouldnt want to play it but the upper bout looks like it'll hold the strap nicely and in a good place.

That guitar should be shot in the head(stock).
-
Reverse explorer's can be pretty 80's and cool lookin, but the headstock and colour scheme etc. on that just make it hideous.
-
Any idea (suggestions?) for what it is called?
BTW - link to reverse flying V

For those (like me) who missed it first time round

   Never seen that... but it is HILARIOUS.

You may have a bright future ahead of you working for Gibson and lots of free vodka for "inspirational" purposes.
