If I remember right, the lead channels are the same, but the clean channel on the PB is different.

Nice. Welcome to planet Engl
Did you get the 4x12" with V60s or V30s?

ENGL...
Tell me chaps - are they just METAL amps? I know that they do the Blackmore signature, which I can't imagine is particularly high gain... but the overall IMAGE of ENGL seem to be one for the moshers...
Is that the case?
(and I ask as someone who is interested in a Screamer head...)
Mark.

Depends what you mean. Engl have 3 sides - Either the very classic sounding amps, the classic series, the VERY versatile amps, Screamer, Powerball, Special Edition, or the cheaper versions of the versatile amps which are focussed more on metal, Savage, Fireball etc.
The versatile amps, Screamer, Powerball, SE, do EVERY style well. The screamer has a very nice clean, and a great gain - Jack of all trades, not bad at any.

Mine said that about my Koch...........sorry I just can't resist making jokes about my amp and haven't got bored with it in 3 years.
Nice amp mate!!

the powerball is far more metal than the savage (at least based on my savage SE- and i've heard from a pretty reliable source (a dude who had both) that, while they sound a bit different, they have similar amounts of gain). don't get me wrong, the savage (se) can get there, but is more of an all-rounder. To clarify, with the powerball you have two channels capable of extremely heavy distortion, even at low volumes. With the savage, it's only channel 4. I'd swap the savage and powerball in your lists. :)
agreed about the rest, though. i'd put the blackmore in the versatile ones too, but depending on how heavy you need it to get, the blackmore might not be heavy enough.
EDIT: however, i'd say if you weren't interested in playing at least some higher gain stuff (bar perhaps the classic series), you're probably better off looking elsewhere. the engls do have a certain tightness which works well for modern high gain but can sound a little sterile if you don't play modern stuff.

Ok. Well I was jamming around my mates last week and took 3 guitars with me so he could have the BKP experience. That worked fine by the way and is in love with my Uber Pimped Richwood LP with Cold Sweats.
Anyway there were a load of stoners in the house and one said 'Look at all those guitars you've brought with you, you're just showing off' so I replied 'If I wanted to show off I would have got me Koch out'. I had to explain myself as he doesn't play the guitar. I was laughing so hard I nearly lost a kidney.

Well, the high gain channels do have a LOT of gain on tap :D  (listen to my last 3 clips since I got my Savage - FWIW, I have the Lead Gain on eight) but there's a fabulous array of clean, just-breaking-up crunch, light overdrive & rock sounds from the other 3 channels of the larger models.
Certainly my Savage has more sounds available from Ch1 & 2 than I've bothered to find (I found sounds from both those channels that I really liked almost straight away & so left it at that rather than mess around with all the bright/contour etc switches)

noice amp! What guitars is that? It is really weird looking with those cut out parts.

I have an Engl Classic Tube 50 head. Very different from the rest of the Engls. It's basicly a hot rodded Fender Bassman. You can dial in some dirt on the clean channel for a loud rockabilly tone or a Rolling Stones tone and the dirty channel can provide some nice seventies style overdrive tones á la AC/DC, Led Zep and Hendrix.

Well i have just got back from band practise and this thing is a beast!!!
To all the people in an earlier thread of mine explaining how loud 60w of tube power is I now stand before you humbled and believing...and slightly deaf!
F**k me it was loud!
But clear and tight sounding as well....had to actually back off volume so as not to drown the drummer out!!!!...and the tone is just awesome!
