Title: 1-2x12 cabs

looking to get a 1 or 2x12 cab for suitable bedroom volume etc - will be playing through a laney gh50l and using a jackson rr24. any ideas on a decent cab to use? needless to say i play pretty much mostly metal :P i was thinking maybe something like a marshall 1936 2x12, but with the abohrence of marshall here at the bkp forums, wondering if anyone has any decent suggestions

It depends on how much you want to spend, a Framus 2x12 from Thomann would be a great option, or if you want to spend more then an Orange 2x12 would be ideal.

Post by: Dave_the_rave on March 09, 2008, 01:10:36 PM: ive heard good things about the framus stuff, but, if im honest, with them and the orange, im not a big fan asthetically. especially with cabs that are wider than they are tall :/ i know thats going to be a problem if i get a 2x12, but it seems less of a problem with than others

You can get a black tolex version they don't have to be orange if you don't want them to be :P

Post by: JDC on March 09, 2008, 11:57:07 PM: I've not got much experience of different cabs but based off other people's opinions for a 2x12 cab for metal I'd say something well made, closed back, with vintage 30 speakers, I'd suggest orange, engl, or bogner, (I only have experience of the engl)

I'd seriously have a look at Matamp cabs. About the same price as an Orange cab. Very, very nicely made, and you can choose your tolex AND speakers.
Martin at Martamp (http://www.martamp.com/) may be able to get you exactly the same cab, but slightly cheaper. It's worth a chat to him - he works at Matamp too by the way.
I have a Martamp (but made by Jeff at Matamp) rear-ported 2x12 (very similar to the THD cab). It's a very nicely made cab, and sounds great.
The beauty of a rear-ported design is that you can get the "thunk" of a closed- back cab, but in aslightly smaller, more portable package.

Thanks for the link. I had no idea they existed. Anyone know where they are in the UK ? Those flatpack kits look very interesting, espec the 1x12 - nicely oversized. Great price too !

This 2x10 5F4 Super I did is in one of those cabs, originally supposed to be a 1x12. They're excellent, and a bargain for the price:
