Title: Rebel Yell Bridge in PRS SE / Delay and clarity test
Post by: hunter on March 11, 2008, 05:28:51 AM
Ok so the challenge was to see if the Rebel Yells (fat but clear) through a Budda amp (fat and dark) recorded with a room mic rather than close up (less definition) can cut and stay clear even with muchos delay.

They do rather well (so does the TC Nova pedal). Sorry, this is a long clip, I wasn't really finding the proper finishing chord  8)

I liked that! Sounded very clear yet spacey and atmospheric. I agree that it needs keyboards. 8)

+1 on the Mike Oldfield thang!

Great tone, really nice.  And very tasteful slide playing.

Thanks all for the compliments. The Tascam is cool as it gives me a very easy recording facility, sounds less direct and all, but gives an impression of the actual sound vs close miced.

And I have to say, as I don't need to set up the computer and all, I have much less of a "red light fright" thing, although there IS a red light on the Tascam, I just let it run and play.

Regarding the Budda, it sounds very nice on its own as you can hear, probably I'd play it if I were the only guitarist in my band, or I would definitely use it for recording.

But it does get lost in the context of a loud rock band. It's just too "pretty" sounding I guess. No comparison to the Marshall or the Shiva.

Re the Nova, I have used it with all 3 amps and it works perfect on all of them, it's great, first pedal that works equally well with all my amps!

Guess I'll have to get that Nova Modulator too once the initial price drops a bit and I hear the first feedback from users.

it was on around 1,5m height, about 1,2m away in front of the amp. I stood on the side (you can hear my strings buzz like crazy, especially on the slide bit).

Recorded in 24bit, Tascam integrated limiter was on, but I don't think it had to limit much, as I prefer recording in 24 bits and then leave a bit of headroom.

I guess the perfect combination would be a close SM57 mixed/blended with a room recording like done with the DR-1.

so it really was a room recording... i'm quite impressed. my room recordings never sound so fine. maybe the tascam would be great for band recording / bootlegs and so on.

That's what I got it for. Will post after next rehearsal next week.

Ok, call me an ignorant n00b if you want, but what in god's name is a Tascam ?
[edit]before anyone thinks i'm truely an idiot, i did gather that it's a microphone of sorts, but... some more info on which one would be nice ;) [/edit]
Also, @ hunter, that clip sounds awesome, it reminded me i need to get my cash issues sorted so i can finally order a set of rebel yells  :good:

Yeah well, here in the family we're discussing these days whether or not to use those little recording devices that are becoming so fashionable, they are audio recorders with integrated mics. Tascam DR-1, Zoom H4, Sony PCM-D50 kinda stuff. The DR-1 was used to make this recording.

The things you could do with one of those Tascam dr 1, a sampler and a midi pickup is infinite
