Title: BK pickup for an eight string
Post by: Bean on March 13, 2008, 04:16:58 AM
I'm planning to begin building a guitar within the next month, and I've decided to go for an eight string. Which BK humbucker do you think sounds most like a slightly edged off DiMarzio Evolution?

Apologies if that's a bad description but that's the best example I can make.

I'd say this is definitely a question for Tim. Send him an email, or better still, call him.
I've heard that for extended range instruments, it's best to go for a lower output pickup to maintain clarity.

Yeah, either really high or really low. Tim recommended Mules for my seven string for this reason, as I'm not a fan of ceramics.

To my understanding, the Evo is tight with a ceramic magnet and has a lot of mids and harmonics. I'm no expert, but that sounds like the Painkiller.
