In a bit of sideways thinking today, I was wondering if it would be possible to make a guitar out of this stuff. I've got a good bit slab of it, and I was going to get it made into some kind of artwork, but it struck me it might make a pretty unique instrument.

Brian May's red special was part oak I believe.

You would need to get it seasoned before even looking to make an instrument of it.

Another thing is that I would imagine it would be very heavy so perhaps a thinline instrument would be a good idea...

Also make sure you have the right screws for the job as some will cause oak to rot and others will corrode due to the oils and such within the oak.

All being well it would probably be Who-proof if not tool-proof.

I think the tops on these are better; check out the single malts.
They may be oak or pine but I love the figuring...

Ah, right, sorry, should have qualified a wee bit there. This is thousands of years old oak that's been preserved in a peat bog. Once dry, it's easy to work, and very light indeed.

It's completely black, too.

I'm thinking along the lines of a very Irish Tele. A bog Oak Top on an Ash body (ash obtained from my local Hurley manufacturer), with a sycamore neck and applewood 'board. I want to use as much local stiff as humanly possible.

That was about as funny as a car accident, sorry.

It sounds fantastic wood (no pun intended) and should look fantastic.

Would it not be against the grain (ok that was one and it was cr@p; you happy?) to make a tele style guitar with a top? Traditionally it would be just a slab of wood...
