Title: Cant decide! Warpig, painkiller or nailbomb?
Post by: tesseract on March 17, 2008, 10:36:36 PM
Hey,

I'm getting my ibanez 1527 7 string setup soon as its well over due for one! (volume pot is jammed for a start) I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup as its just the stock one at the moment. I can't decide whether to go for a Lundgren M7 or a bareknuckle... The Painkiller and warpig seem to stick out most from what ive read (people keep mentionion ceramic magnets to me aswell).

Just wondering if anyone could add in their thoughts?

Looking for the low end to be as tight as possible...though there isn't much there in the first place compared to my SG made of ash which is much weightier. Obviously want a nice articulated midrange with plenty of bite.

To get an idea of the style im playing: www.tesseractband.co.uk

Any help would be appreciated!

FWIW, the Miracle Man set in my SG is ridiculously tight. I think if I were playing heavier stuff on a more regular ocassion, I'd use my SG more.

Seriously heavy stuff, they keep it clean and articulated too.

great band

the ceramic nailbomb is pretty tight too -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=TKUPF9UEuRQ

i'd say painkiller for mahogany, but i'd get something with more low end to fill the basswood lack of bass
probably a ceramic pig

The man wants "Mids" and "Bite" though.

The MM is tight as a knats chuff, but 'middy' it aint (it doesnt lack them, but bar the low mids, they arent emphasised at all, a bit scooped) and its less 'biting' more 'screaming'.

Why do you not think the PK has bass?

It has tonnes of bass. Really, really tight bass.

The C-pig would be my second choice for the OP though.

haha man so much choice!

Thanks guys. Hmmmmm. I know what you mean the ibanez does lack weight/bass compared to the SG...so it would be nice to add some in ...as long as it was tight useable bass....not horrible flub :p (im looking into another gooooooood 7 string eventually but my musical shopping list is getting far to big and expensive so just trying to tart up what i already have!)

Hmmmmm. The MM could work since i tend to take out 200hz all the time before i hit an amp anyway...i always cut the bass a bit with some kind of boost/pre.

Painkiller still sounding nice for its tightness.....warpig could be handy for filling in the weight of the basswood though. Is the pig tight lol (compared to PK/MM) ?

Awesome playing eric, and thanks man! Gotta love  bulb! Got some nice jent coming out of the framus man! Was looking at them just a minute ago as i was looking into their 7 strings. Trying to save for a diezel herbert though :|

Hey man,

Love your band :)

That vid was actually one of mine,. The C-Bomb is a great sounding pickup, certainly very tight and articulate. It's what Pin from sikTh uses as well.

I reckon the Painkiller would probably suit you down to the ground. Extreme clarity and tightness, with a hefty midrange. I haven't actually played one myself, but I've discussed them with Tim quite a lot, and have chosen a Painkiller set for my soon-to-arrive Blackmachine.

That said, I'd highly recommend giving Tim a call and seeing what he recommends. He is unequivocally the man. FWIW I don't think you'll go far wrong with any of the contemporary humbuckers, and I don't think you'll find a single BK that has any horrible flub!

ok....been paid!

Think im gonna go for the painkiller! Its ceramic which is one reason why i wanna go for it. Anything i should know before getting it? Also the conductor option on the shop 4 or braided 2.....im guessing 4 for the ibanez? I have no idea lol

I have a 7 string kramer, alder body maple bolt-on neck,
and I've decided on a C-Pig for metal.

Dunno if that helps.
