I'm almost biting the bullet on a CWP and there's just some lingering questions I'm hoping somebody could clear up for me.
I mainly need a 7 string bridge pickup to do metal rhythm. So it needs to be pretty brutal, and has very tight bass response for those fast technical riffs on the B string.
I'm pretty sure I want the warpig, but I would like to know if the ceramic warpig is a bit overkill on the tightness, I wanna keep some of the Alnico warmth and versatility if possible.
Even if metal/thrash is my main concern, it would be nice to be able to cover as much sonic territory as the pickup can handle.
So I think it comes down to AV, AVIII or C warpig.
If you've had 1 or more of those pickups in a 7 string or low-tuned axe, please share your thoughts!
I have a 85 Kramer striker 7 stringer, Alderbody (I think), Maple neck and fingerboard.
Right now it sounds pretty bright, has a decent amount of open but muddy sounding bass, and lacks mid.

I don't have a seven string (as godly awesome as it would be to own one) but I do have a ceramic warpig in my Indie. Which I play @ Drop B tuning. The bass reponse is perfect for me, I can play something for you if you like (Something being something managable with my "skills")

Sure, that would be great.
Could you do something along the lines of Lamb of God - laid to rest riffage or Megadeth's holy wars?
And an overview of what guitar and amp you use would help a lot too.
Thanks!

Those aren't pretty low tunings. Hmm.. Risk tuning up and having to tune all the way back down again.. Hmm..
Will see what I do.

If you have all your strings tuned low then just go ahead and play them with whatever low tuning you have.
If you only down tuned the bottom string then, yeah I can see how it might be a PITA especially if you have a floating bridge, so it's up to you. :)

OK, take two. First take I did it with terrible tone (not saying this is any better)
Indie Signature, Alder/Maple Top, Toneport UX1, "V30 speakers"
Excuse my playing, I'm bloody starving, :(

This is a track I've been working on lately.
It sounds a very long way from good (its just to work on the sructure of the song really, a task that I only require sound 'tollerable' tonally), but it should give you an idea of how the C-Pig stands up tightness wise in low tunings.
Tuning is drop B, 25.5 scale.
Amp is roland cube 30 DI'd into a high-Z input on my soundcard  Everything is 4-tracked, except where its 6-tracked (the raked 'harmonies' are doubled)

Woohoo, thanks fellas, I'll give them a listen!
MDV your link doesn't work for me. :(

Dunno what to do mate. It works for me, its had a few downloads, so it works for other people. I could paste it in again, but what difference would that make?
If you really want to hear it, maybe try a different browser or something?
-
I do really want to hear it mate! But I'm in China right now and the chinese government just LOVES to censor websites it deems "inappropriate", God only knows how they determine what's "appropriate".
Maybe you could upload it to something like the box ?
Meanwhile I'll try some different browsers and proxys and such.

Hey,
I have a CWP in the bridge of my B tuned SG and it works great. It realy keeps tight no matter how low you tune.
I also have an Alnico 5 Pig-90 and a Alnico V Warpig about to go in the middle and neck positions of that same guitar. I'd be happy to advise further once they are installed.
good luck!

Thanks Tricalibur, please post some clips if you have the chance.
And if anyone can post clips of the CWP being versatile (preferably in an alder guitar), it would really help make up my mind!
Cheers!
p.s. still trying to download MDV's clip, gawd I hate china's fcking internet.
