finally got it! 58 VOS les paul thanks to coda music, they had 4 58's and a 57 to try out so i sat in there for hours making sure i picked the best one! It sounds unbelievable and plays like ive been playing it all my life. it was a lot of money but i could have paid a hell of a lot more so im happy as!
sorry about the pictures, lack of time and proper camera. the pictures dont really show it but the edges are less black and they have a sort of reddish tint to them, almost like bourbon burst, it looks great!

How much was it exactly?
And I like the finish :)
-
coda do them for 1800 and i managed to get another 60 off. im pretty happy with that price considering the prices ive seen elsewhere, ebay is a good route but i wanted to go and compare a bunch of them. it was either this one or an iced tea version but this one had a slight edge tonally.
-
Happy new guitar day GE :D
That looks like a great guitar. Looking forward to a clip or two, if you have time?
-
for sure! when ive got time i'll record something and post it up. somewhere down the line i can see this one getting a set of mules in it.
-
Congratulations man, that looks like a nice one. Good move on trying as many as possible too.
-
Nice colour! Congrats!

Absolutely, you don't want to go spending that kind of money without playing the thing.
Looks great! :D

Very nice. I keep looking for reasons to not get an LP and this hasn't helped!!
-
Would have loved the Iced Tea one!
-
Looks perdy 8)
The Custom is looking so attractive.......

What does VOS mean though? Feels like i'm missing something.

I'm glad someone asked  . I've looked it up loads of times but somehow it never sticks in my memory.
-
yeah although thats what it stands for VOS just means they age the finishes a bit so the appear slightly worn, they look really good close up.
-
That's absolutely horrible, I mean really... I just threw up all over myself. Hand it over and I'll take it to the tip for ya... no charge.
:)
-
haha! no chance! this ones not going anywhere! i'll get some sound clips up soon and you'll understand why!
-
Are you gonna BK it? (And no, not Burger King)
-
Haha! yeah i'll consider a pair of mules for it eventually, my Dean TC needs them in aswell as ive recently sold of the miracle man that was in that so that will come first as the les paul already sounds amazing so im happy with it for the moment while my bank balance recovers! but i can only imagine a set of mules will make it sound even better so at some point they will go in!
-
got my LP STD from Coda, still very happy with it.
The Earvana nut Jonathan fitted to mine made a hude difference to how sweet the chords sounded lower down the neck. Highly recommend.
got a Rebel Yell bridge and Cold Sweat neck in mine.

Here's a picture of my 58 VOS in iced tea.

I agree that the stock pickups do sound very good but I still replaced them with Mules and there was a noticable improvement in clarity. Then curiosity got the better of me and I replaced those with a set of PG Blues.
I'll put up some clips when I finally figure out how to put my guitar through my computer!
-
Heres a few more pics in a better light, still with my phone camera but shows the finish off a little bit better, still the pics dont show off the grain and the colours arent as drastic in person but at least the pics are getting better! one day i'll actually have time to take a proper picture

Your Iced Tea looks very nice but in that light looks very much like washed Cherry

wow! they are all stunning! congrats on the collection! i tried a few R9's just for fun but i think i prefer the R8 neck, which is lucky as the R9's are a hell of a lot more! im surprised because i didn't think i was suited to that big a neck but once i started playing on them i couldnt put them down, if anything fast runs feel more comfortable and smoother on my r8 neck than any "shred machine" ive played. i've never had a neck feel so nice to play!
-
Crikey! I normally prefer the more faded bursts but that Darkburst's a beauty! :o
-
I like how you can see some purple (or my eyes are just messed up) in that R9
I don't understand this R8 & R9 business though.. o_O

Reissue '58, Reissue '59
-
All the historics really go with that type of model number
R2 = 52 reissue
R4 = 54 reissue, R6, R7, R8, R9, R0 ............
This sytem only works for the custom shop historic Les Paul range, not including juniors specials customs etc.
hope this helps

To be honest they're all a bit different, I have a R8 with a very big neck, bigger than a R9 and another one which has the right profile with the correct shoulder. My R4 has a neck like a baseball bat really chunky but very comfortable indeed, great sound from the R4, P90's really growl, the wrapover is really sweet too as it gives a much lower tension on the strings almost like a short scale feel.
The Murphy has my all time perfect neck feel big fat C a real handfull but again really comfortable. I have a 70's custom with a thin neck that takes a bit of getting used to after the Murphy,
Hva e fun with the new guitar and enjoy it, new guitar days are really great aren't they!

How much is one roughly? 3k?

How much is one roughly? 3k?
which model?
I've only bought them in the States

'59 Reissue
-
they seem to be about £3k here you're right, but there is a limited choice.
The importers were Rosetti but I think they have finally lost the import deal to Gibson Europe who are now doing it direct, this may be good news and we may see a few more Historics come over, but if you check out the stock that some like Wildwood Guitars have in the States, you'll be amazed.
If you're looking for a real Good one I'd look first in Japan. The pecking order seems to be Japan, USA, Europe. I don't want to decry anyone's guitar bought here in the UK but when you see the stuff in Japan , you just walk around with your mouth wide open.
I don't want to offend any Japanese people but they are fanatical about these Les Paul's. There is a street in Tokyo which is about half a mile long and both sides of the road are nothing but guitar shops, not just on the ground floors either, The shops are sometimes on the second or third floor and it appears that they al;l have a great choice of Historics . I am always like a kid in a sweet shop when I go there, The guitars are all usually hand picked beauties.
here's a couple of links to USA places
