Title: new valve day - mullard action :)
Post by: gwEm on March 31, 2008, 11:55:31 AM
i stuck some used mullards in my amp a few months ago.

anyway, i mentioned this to my old man, thinking he might be interested as hes an electronic engineer too. he goes to me, i think my pal ken has some old valves, and he worked for mullard for a while.

he went to see him recently and picked up four ECC83 mullards as a present - two of them are unused military spec ones. the old man posted them and they arrived this morning, can't wait to try them. my marshall jmp50 already sounds well tasty with the standard mullard used tubes.

spring has started, and this is marvellous good fortune. i reckon a nice present for my old man's mate is in order!

You're right. Those would be worth well over £100 on ebay.  Very nice tubes ! And an especially nice gift.
You should be sorted for pre-amp tubes for life now !   Good NOS 12ax7's just never seem to die !

Mullards-pah utter rubbish I wouldn't put them in old radio let alone my amp

Oh, and the mil spec ones are really cr@ppy......  I wouldn't even try them. I do know someone who could take them off your hands though................

Nice score, the mil spec ones aren't necessarily any better in tone terms, but they will have closer matching between each triode, selected for lower noise and possibily have thicker glass or more interal supports for reduced microphonics.  they should last you a LONG time if they're 100% NOS.

Seeing as everyone is already envious, at this point I won't mention the shoebox full of Mullard & Brimar ECC83s I have under my bed

How much are you selling them for... or, wait... you want to send me three for free? That's cool. THANKS!  8)
