Hey,
Buying an 7 string and want to tune it to, G, C, F, A#, D#, G, C.
Was thinking of a Nailbomb , but not sure if I want to fo Ceramic or Alnico?
Here is some info
24 Frets, Ebony fretboard, Mahogany neck and body, Locking trem and nut, 25.5" Scale
What do you reckon?
-
what wood/style/amp?

If you're unsure if you want ceramic or A5: get A8! I actually think the 7 string Nailbomb comes standard with an alnico 8 magnet.
-
a wha... :?: A8 Magnet? When did Tim start using those?
-
My understanding is that Tim will use whatever sounds best and if that includes A8 (which is almost like a ceramic but with an alnico twist if that makes any sense) in this application then so be it.
And I think that he uses them on the extended range pups to get over the mushy, floppy quality you can get with a low B.

No, it's a grade of alnico, nothing ceramic about it. Soundwise it has some of the same caracteristics as ceramics.
And I think he started using them pretty recently. See this:

the alnico 8 doesn't make a pickup sound raw, spikey and bright like a ceramic
sounds just a bit brighter, fatter, tighter and more powerful than alnico 5, but still has the alnico tone, a bright and glassy clean tone and round highs
the extra low midrange can make some pickups sound muddy, but i doubt it could be possible with a BKP

Note the use of the word 'almost' in my post.
