Cool it's pure 50s sci-fi too.
I forgot to ask if your build uses an expression pedal (the socket at the bottom hints that it does)
-
It be one of these: http://www.toneczareffects.com/lg-pedals-openh.htm
Not cheap, and definitely not easy to get hold of.
Excellent GAS.

Ah excellent pedal. I have heard of them, but not really read any reviews.
The expression pedal control of the gain is a great idea. it certainly is very flexible tonally. I shall be interested to hear how it sounds !

well detected one and all :)
From kitten to Mesa Recto/Diezel in a small perfectly formed box

The Openhaus was initially designed by Ed for the gigging/studio muso who (for whatever reason) did'nt have his personal amp/amps with him.
Basically in this way it can be used with any amp (with a non VERY distorted channel) to acheive the gamet.
Basically when used with a single channel typically cleaner or multi channel amp (with not enough gain per se) it can provide the gain desired. As amps these days can be brutal in the gain dept. Ed had to design the Openhaus to be able to reach these levels (thus using it with a high gain amp/channel is not what it is designed for or rec. at all!).
The pedal itself has Volume,Gain,Bass,Treble,Middle knobs (ala typical amp setup). The mid knob being center off.
It also has 3 mini switches (clever bit as it were).
One is a Mid voice toggle basically for mids, hi mids and presence.
One is a Gain mode toggle. This is a 3 pos. for Extra gain, Clean and Super Lead.
Lastly there is a Phase toggle. This 2 way toggle is mainly for loud/stage volumes to control feedback situations.
Also, the pedal can be controlled (for intensity/gain) via an external volume pedal, allowing great variance of gain/saturation without 'knob tweaking' on the fly.
So, basically, in a nutshell, it's a 'small box add-on' to make a lower gain/clean amp go from clean to ultra heavy (inc. nu metal). Obviously it's complex with many variables (much like an amp) but if not a 'pedal addict' (much like myself) but needing somthing to allow total gain control of any amp that does not have the gain level or tone wanted/required then this is worth it in spades and worth learning!
i think of it as a very small 'swiss army knife' amp. That is it can transform an amp into that gain machine we desire/need.
Why did I buy it when I already own a Bogner Shiva you may ask?
Well, the Shiva is Amazing for 99.9% of my needs/wants but it cannot do the newer metal/high gain tones without help. Often this is not needed but on occasion I would prosper from that ability. It also allows me (when need arises) to ultimately use a 'house' amp or indeed a borrowed amp without the need of the Shiva.
Also, the clean channel on the Shiva is so pristine this pedal will not only be able to transform the Shiva into a ultra/nu metal gain monster but also provide a myriad of new useable gain tones from the clean ch. from mild to blues to nu! Pretty cool indeed. And def. more so as Ed is THE best communicator/nicest guy to deal with ever!

well, postie came about an hour ago
Firstly, shipping/packaging First rate 100%!
Build quality, solid, good switches/knobs and powder coated (with rubber grip already on pedal base) all in all superb.
Now, what ya really wanna know, sounds.
Well, VERY early to tell but so far Sublime.
Every knob/switch has great effect. Can be subtle yes but ALL certainly cause a tonal effect!
Using the Openhaus (thus far) is not too complicated (it seems) if you are used to a bass/mid/treb/gain amp setup. Set clean channel to fave tone and away ya go. The gain can go from nothing to subtle to breakup to blues to classic to rock to metal to OTT metal!
So, thus far, pleased? Oh yes. The Shiva can now be a Def. Metal Amp up there with Recto's etc. but more importantly (to me and my ears, having owned Recto's, Knucklehead Rivera's etc.) the tone is so natural and CLEAR and precise (not a pedal for sloppy technique per se) and the Sustain and Harmonic richness is AMAZING and the decay is soooooooo natural for a pedal IMO.
