$%ign Hails Guys
Finally iīm back with some news
i installed and swapped all bkps in my charvel, Tuned to D Standard.
And here are my impressions :
Nailbomb - Darker of them all. Tight Bass. Not too much Middle Middles but a lot of High Middles and highs. A lot of Presence in The Mix. Moderated/High Output.
Pretty Articulated for Swedish Death Metal Sound like In Flames on their cd WHORACLE.
its a little bit loose when you do the Blastpicking thing(black death tremolo/speed piclking technique)
Very Good Harmonics
OLD School Voicing.
Suitable for clean sound and also has the BK trademark vintage tone to it.
Not that good for Black/death metal Technique called Tremolo/speed picking, that iīll call it here BlastPicking.
Miracle Man - Ultra Super Hyper Mega Tight Bass. the feel of it is similar to the Warpigs Bass Tightness but more focused and more meaty. where the nailbomb has a more Raw Tight Bass.
Its Middles are not too much apparent, but they arentīa lot reduced.. they sound like Van Hallen some times with the brown sound to it.
i find it similar to what Twillight Odyssey cals Old school Metal, btu i will call Ratt, poison etc.. its middles reminds me of Twillight odyssey sound.
The highs are Screaming and has a little touch of Wah Wah vowel sound to it.
Harmonics never been so easy.
Voicing is something between old school and Modern Sound.
Not as articulated as the nailbomb but still pretty focused and tighty, and has a considerable ammount of articulation.
The Highs are a little Bit Thin, but it can be compensated with a little Tweak on the amps EQ
Output is between a painkiller and a miracle man.
Warpig - Ultra super Hyper Mega Output. Its like a girl screaming just after being nailed by 2 a big black Mahogany Logs in a Dirty DP.
HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAhaahAhaHAhahahahahahaH
Theres a Wall Of Power and Bass. But the Nailbombīs Bass are More Meaty And More Wet than the Warpigīs Bass
The feel of Palm Mutting an ultra super mega Death Thrash riff a lá DECAPITATED is like Picking with yoru right hand through a wall oc concrete.
Pretty Percussive and Tight.. but in a different way than you will experience with the Miracle Man.
Middles Are OK. not too much, not too Less.
Highs are a bit less Pronounced than the Other pickups previously Mentioned.
Overal sound is sharp and reminds me a lot fo Black sabbath. for sure.
it has a little bit of Fuzz to It.
I didnīt had time to play it clean, ahahah i was amazed by itīs power in DISTORTION MODE.
but i think itīs good, once you roll off the output knob a little bit.
Painkiller - Lots of Bite, Tight Bass. Not as tight as the Miracle Man or Warpig, But Tight in a "Fit" Way, due to not have a passive ammount of BASS like the warpig, painkiller , miracle man .
It has a tight bass, but the ammount of Bass is less than the previously mentioned pickups.
Very good middles but still not enough middles for me. they are crunchy.
It has the best highs from all the otehr mentioned pickups.
Excellent highs that jump out in your face for lead work and articulated work.
It has a glassy straty sound when you do some Black/death Blastpickings
it is not as articulated for swedish death metal riffage like in flames and at the gates, but it is still very good.
it has more output than the nailbomb, less or equally than the Miracle Man, and SURELY LESS than the Warpig. ahahahahahahahaha
It is the Brightes of all 3 mentioned Pickups.
I Think i need a Custom Bare Knuckle Called : The 666
Painkiller Highs and High Eq.
Nailbombīs Ammount/Eq Of Bass
Output Wise.. it would be Painkillerīs Output
The Ammount OF Tightness of the Miracle Man..
Miracle Manīs Harmonics,
And a Special Tone that i didnīt find in any of the pickups.. The ammount and voicing of the Middles.
iīll work it out with tim and see if itīs possible.
But, from all of those 4 pickups, my favorite is the Nailbomb.

Excellent reviews. I think this is the most unique description for the Warpig I've heard yet
Warpig - Ultra super Hyper Mega Output. Its like a girl screaming just after being nailed by 2 a big black Mahogany Logs in a Dirty DP.
-
of all the above I got only the Nailbombs and couldn't agree with you more. I love them to death :huge:
I will just add that I didn't find the clean sound very "straty" unless coil-split. the bridge pup has too much output for a clean clean sound for me, but the neck pup does have a certain hollowness that makes it excellent for cleans.
great review overall. you did have me concerned about the warpigs  , having girls being gang raped by giant trees while mad evil laughter is being heard in the background atop heavily distorted chords is just too hantai for me. I prefer the magical pickup that causes an unleash of viking troops who rape, kill, pillage and burn everything in their way.
Thats way more metal

+1 for viking pillage
I would like a pickup that I can use to play a chord, then say "you're already dead", then people's heads explode.
-
like a girl screaming just after being nailed by 2 a big black Mahogany Logs
Would this be 2 Les Paul Customs?
-
Yo what's your Charvel made from?
-
I agree with you entirely about the miracle man.
But i wish my nailbomb sounded like yours....
I couldnt get a tone i liked out of it at all, it just seemed to have waaayyy to bass especially in my les paul.

Maybe itīs because your les paul =dark tone wood + your amp or amp settings.
Maybe a Painkiller or a miracle man would fit the bill there
I Found the Painkiller to be brightest of all 4. i didnīt like it too much, because of it. maybe it will match a darker wood better
iīm either getting a les paul copy , made in brazil, with brazilian CEDAR wood. set neck.. or a Cort KX-1.. they claim its made of Mahogany. letīs see.
i will come with soundclips for all guitars
i forgot to say the guitar tunings and woods right?!!?
Charvel Fusion Deluxe- either poplar or basswood. im stillnot sure . and i have this guitar for a long time now. more than 5 years.
ESP M II Deluxe- Ash body. maple-rosewood neck/fret.
Schecter Avenger - Walnut back and top. Basswood Body.
Maple-rosewood neck/fret.
Schecter is tuned to C standard.
Esp and Charvel to D Standard.
Next guitar will be tuned to B Standard.
Jp
i promisse more clips.
and iīll solve the lack of clean review for my warpig.
since it may sound rude or something(its not intended to sound rude But Ultra funny), do you want me to Re write the output text for the Warpig!?

Ah guys, sorry for the XXX comparison... its just a analogy that came to my mind.. its to throw in some fun on the review.
I didnīt have enough time with the warpig to play it with CLEAN stuffs..
the actual status of the pickups are :
MM - in my charvel
NB - in my ESP
Warpig still waiting in the line, to be installed ON the schecter.

HahahAHAhaHAhaH
Not AT ALL
ahahahahahahahaha

I still Need to Test a Cold Sweat and a Ceramic Warpig.

fully agree that in the right guitar the miracle man sounds very old skool.
-

DIE YOU IMPOSTER!!! the real WFD would NEVER EVER!!! roll off the output knob.. if anything, he'd turn it too 11 and then knock it off, so it never moves!

ROFL.

Miracle Man Output is between a painkiller and a miracle man.
Painkiller But Tight in a "Fit" Way, due to not have a passive ammount of BASS like the warpig, painkiller , miracle man .
That's some pretty metal pickups that have more output and more bass than itself! :P
Kidding of course, great reviews.

Ah shite, i need to correct it it is not PASSIVE But MASSIVE

ESP - Miracle Man(seems to fit )

Hails WFD! I remember you from the Duncan forums, though I'm still confused as to what a "Fking Hails Rails" is, but that's story for another day.
I've recently acquired a ESP/LTD MV200 (pics below), which is a 24.75" mahogany string-through super strat with a maple neck and rosewood board. What would you think would go well in it? I was initially thinking Nailbomb or Miracle Man, but I guess I'll consider the War Pig now as well. I think I want a pretty balanced tone, but if the War Pig is that crushing, maybe that's the way to go? It came with a Duncan Invader in the bridge, and it needs to go badly.

Hails Zii!
Man.. i dont have a mahogany body guitar withme
i just bought a CORT KX-1 and it says its mahogany body and neck.. but i dont think so.. maybe its NATO.. instead of mahogany
its too soft to be mahogany
Q:p
ithink youshould ask tim..
my guitars are all made of more or less bright woods (basswood, ash)
then it may differ from the final results.
i was talking with Ben, from Jotnar, and he told me that tim didnīt recomend a nailbomb for one of his mahogany bodied guitars
maybe.. its the same case for you
ask tim, and we will sEE

mahogany sounds softer than most regular woods
all cort katanas i've played definitely sound like mahogany
it may not be mahogany, but sounds like every mahogany guitar i've played or owned
the stock pickups are very high output, but they have alnico 5 magnets and lack brightness and clarity, so what you call "soft" can be also related to the mighty mite motherbuckers muffled and a bit muddy tone
try every BK you have on it and tell us what happened
-
The stock Mighty Mighte pickups arent muffled at all,BUT A lot BRIGHT
Q:/
i[ll Painkiller it.
but it needs a set up urgently
-
Thanks, that's a helpful review. It helps understand the differences in the pickups. I only have the Miracle Man but your description is very accurate about how I feel it sounds.
-
in another guitar, maybe a mahogany bodied one, the MM would sound bolder in the middles, and/or crunchier in the middles.
Q:)
AN so the other pickups too.
everything can happens
all that i know is that i Love the Nailbomb. i just need it with a tad more tightness in the bass zone, and MORE, Middles.
it wil be perfect THEN.
-
Hails Guys.. did you think that the review is helpful?!
-
I think it's been helpful
I am kinda in the same boat you are.
So far I have tried the Painkiller and Nailbomb in the bridge of my 7 string.
I like the Nailbomb more but I need the lows tighter for the style I am playing.
I am wondering if I should get a Ceramic or A8 Nailbomb.
-
hails man
i'm ok with the nailbomb, only thing that could change to made it a perfect pickup, is more middles.
the rest is totally plausible
JP
-
Wow dude, mad props for that review!!! I enjoyed it. I have a set of MM's, but that review makes me want them all!
-
I like your review and agree completely with the Miracle Man's description. I do disagree however that the NB has a lot of highs - I feel it is rather dark actually and thickens up the high notes very nicely. For me it has more of a warm, full and singing high end.
-
thanks for the review :) It makes me think that the nailbomb is not a pickup for me :) i will keep on getting my hybrids made forever :)

i have a schecter hellrasier special mahogany body maple neck, currently my pickups are dimarzio crunchlab(bridge) dimarzio liquifire(neck),so far im pretty satisfied but im looking for a thunderous roaring low end with a nice organic midrange and a Crisp articulate high so i got the warpig ceramic(bridge)(is that a good choice) and so im gonna replace the crunchlab with that And also a really nice neck pickup thats great for bluesy rock and nice fluid tones thanks dude would appreciate it if u got back to me fast
-
again... just bumping this old thread of mine that i found here Q: )
Maybe it will help someone .
