Title: cold sweat magnet change
Post by: zaraki_fan on April 12, 2008, 07:30:40 PM
how would cold sweats sound if you changed the ceramic magnets to alnico II magnets? perhaps an alnico IV in the bridge or for both?

what would that sound like? im thinking it might be somewhat slash-y but those of you with more experience here will know more

any ideas people?

I don't think anyone really knows except Tim.

Theory can only say so much. It might work and it might not.

From the theories I have heard, AII would get a bit loose on the bass when wound that high

Slash-y.. would doubt it, considering the large winding difference with the CS to his low powered pickups.

well i thought that the bass and highs might get soft but i checked seymour duncans custom shop artist pickups an they have:
george lynch super v: 17.0k
warren demartini rtm: 17.6k
scott ian el diablo: 22.1k
and these all use alnico ii magnets, so i wonder why not the cold sweat which are around 14k

also i see the cold sweat is around twice the resistance of the alnico ii pro that slash uses... so maybe not so slash-y
