This sure beats reading the Sunday Papers for me!
I downloaded a backing track for All My Life By the Foo Fighters for £2.50 from Jam Tracks about the same price as News Of The Screws!
The main guitar in this is my Richwood Les Paul with a Cold Sweat Bridge doing all the muted chords. That guitar is panned 45 left in the mix. Then when the chorus starts the Charvel Model 6 with a Miracle Man bridge kicks in and helps out towards the end too. Thats panned 45 right in the mix.
I used a Telenordia Kompressor on the Richwood throughout and none on the Charvel just to balance things out.
The amp was My Koch Powertone II on the gain channel. Gain on 7. Presence on 8.5. Bass on 10 Mid on 7.5, Treble on 8.5.
All miked up with a Shure SM57 on a Koch 4x12 cab this time as opposed to direct recording from the attenuator like I normally do. I hope my electricity thieving Croatian Lesbian neighbours appreciated it!
An EMU 1820 soundcard and Cubase VST 5.1 were used for recording. I have to compress it all in Cubase to stop it all bouncing into the red on the meters. I also put a bit more bottom end with EQ on the Charvel.
There were a couple of rhythmic sync mistakes on the muted power chords. I should have just left it to one guitar, which is how the original is.

Quality stuff Johnny. Sounds great.
The Richwood sounds really good on those muted chords. PDT_003
EDIT: Just compared the tone with that of the 'Foos- the Charvel is much closer than the Richwood- not too far away at all in fact. (Not sure if emulating the tone was your intention anyway, though).

$% me, that's a good recording.
Nice tones!

NICE ONE JOHNNY!! PDT_045
I bet you woo a lot of ladies with your Koch! Maybe not those thieving lesbos, but certainly the straight crowd!
Awesome clip, i those minor chords were nice, thick, and crunchy!

Thanks for the kind words lads! :D
Sambo, I think your right mate about the tone on the Charvel, that guitar is such an animal as well! I wanted to get two different guitar tones in the mix, which is a first for me.
Thanks O9! I'm sure that gave them a wake up call to the world of testosterone fulled male-ness!!!

I'm having trouble finding a picture of your guitar, Johnny.
Care to post one, please?

Ah lovely Richwood. Is it full mahogany?
Back to the topic. I love the Richwood in this. :O
However at some parts it sounds too thin. But I guess that's my ears lying me since I'm near deaf anyways.

It's some kind of Mahogany, it is only a cheap guitar but Feline pimped the hell out of it, it had the board flattened and a re-fret as well as the pups.
I'm still on the learning curve of getting the tone recorded as it sounds from the amp, it's a real science!

There's full mahogany ones and the less better ones are made from Nato.

Nato could be it. It was unplayable out of the box, the neck was warped, the frets were all over the place and the bridge pup wasn't even working! I bought when I was stoned :? I don't do that anymore so hopefully no more big f ups!

At least you have Jonathan handy at the ready for things like that. I sadly have the same but less customer satisfaction.

So is your neck in a bad state too? It may be an idea to count your losses, flog it and get something better out of the box, cos' the money I dropped on that to put it right wasn't cheap! Mind you saying that it plays like a demon now, even with the standard tuners and bridge.

The guitar on the right speaker sounds awesome. Left is a bit thin for my liking but the right sounds a bit thicker and better :) Work well together though.

Yes I think I could back the treble or presance off a bit after listening to the original.

Nice work Johnny, it's useful to hear the two different pickups panned like that. I liked both tones a lot.

Thanks mate! :D
I may have another take on this when my Feline is finished using Rebel Yells. One of my strings is flat too

Jonny - just heard this. Wow. :o
Sounds excellent man. Keep 'em coming!
I wish I could record like that!
