lol, those two have been doing a segment at the end of an Aussie news programme for yeeeeears (since before I was born, I think).

I assume it's always like this then.
Over here we have a program called Bremner, Bird and Fortune on Channel 4 (don't know if you get it in Oz) which contains spoof interviews akin to that one each week between John Bird and John Fortune based upon topical events and performed with a live audience.
They can be the highlight of the show but sometimes the studio laughter can get on my nerves nowadays.
