Hi.
Im trying to get a sound similar to Michael Angelo Batio's, such as that in these two clips
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiT6qtM09tI
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJU6AiUSkAo
I have an alder bodied guitar with a single coil on the neck and humbuckler on the bridge position. It has a maple neck and ebony fret board with 24 frets.
Can you please suggest which pickups would be best for achiving such a sound ?

Welcome to the forum.
I'm out of my depth on that one I'm affraid. If I had to make a guess... VHII? But I could be wildly out on that, I look forward to being torn down for that :)
Make sure you email Tim, he's the best one for this kind of advice. Hopefully someone here will be able to match that tone for you.

Hey there mate, welcome :)
As ailean says, Tim is the best person to ask. He knows his pickups better than anyone, and always gives great advice.
From the sounds of it, a Cold Sweat bridge or Holy Diver (or even Nailbomb) bridge humbucker with a Trilogy Suite single in the neck would suit you pretty well. The VHII certainly wouldn't be a bad suggestion, but the lower output will be less forgiving if your technique isn't flawless.

definitely something ceramic
i'd put a painkiller, maybe a miracle man
maybe the old ceramic holy diver
batio has emg's in his signature dean and used dimarzio super distortion for years

painkiller i'd say.

He is a monster player but everything about him reminds me of Shaggy from the Scooby Doo cartoons; even his voice is the same!
