Title: Ibanez Vs Jackson Vs Ibanez
Post by: donovan.x on April 19, 2008, 05:53:01 PM
I am getting a serious case of G.A.S and although it wont be remedied straight away, I need to start planning.
The contenders are;
Jackson PC1
Steve Vai Jem 77V
Joe Satriani JS1200

The Jackson tops the poll price wise at a hefty £1800 and I wonder if it is a one trick pony but I am a huge Lep fan.
What do you guys think? Any experiance?

Cheers guys.

Honestly I'd go with the PC1. You get a sustainer, original floyd rose, quilt top, birdseye maple neck, mahogany body, dimarzio's and USA made. The

Ibanez's, mmm they're ok. I don't think they're worth the money to be quite honest. If you were going to spend that much money and deffinatly wanted an Ibanez then I'd try and find a J Custom.

Yep, I vote PC1 too (however I'm heavily biased in favour of anything with "Jackson" on the headstock that was made in the USA :))

I've played a few Jackson USA's and they are the bollocks, just pure quality.

My hearts says 'Yay' but my bank says 'Gulp'.
It does look like a cool guitar and the other two were sort of cheap alternatives.

I have a friend with a PC1 that he may be selling
It's in pretty good nick even though he's had it 7 years or so
I have done setups in the past on it so know it pretty well
I've shot him an email to check for you if he's selling it
It's the Mocha colour one - nice guitar

The only modification he had done was having some dot markers installed to make it easier onstage

Big Ibanez fan here. Never liked Jacksons to be honest.

In all honesty if you're going for an Ibanez get an older Japanese one because quite frankly the ones suck ass in comparison. Not majorly but it's my preference.

I'd recommend you search the international Ebay for an Ibanez Jem or JS. The JS has a very small, thin, fast neck to suit Satch's weeny hands. However Vai whose fingers seem to be the equivelent of the human E.T would definatley have a different type of feel to. Then again just try it all out and pick what suits you best.

I use an Ibanez PGM300. I'd highly recommend one if you can get your mits on one. As I've guessed I presume you're looking for a Floyd-rose type guitar, and even though the current PGM model is a fixed bridge they used to put Lo-Pro Ibanez Floyd's in. Very easily the best trem system I've ever come across.

Anywho find a place that stocks all the stuff you're looking for.

I own a PC-1-it currently has a Mule in the bridge-it is a killer axe..like a Les PAul with a Floyd...the neck is different...compound radius...it is not what I would consider a particularly fast/shred neck...chords are effortless!every time I pick mine up, I am moved to play Steve Lukather licks(I don't know why...)it is a class act with some meat on the bone-

Although I love the look and specs of the Jackson - I seriously doubt that its worth the price tag.

I played a few American Jacksons a few weeks ago and was not particularly impressed it has to be said - I think alot better can be done from the Japs.

Thanks for the info Feline. I have a bit more saving to do before I make the purchase however.

+1 on Paul Gilbert with trem, worth thinking about.

my cousin has a JEM he's trying to get rid of. it's two or 3 years old and has barely been played - he got a JP Musicman just after the JEM and hasn't played it since. I'm pretty sure he wants £1200 ono

+1

though for that amount of money i'd also be strongly considering a custom from legra, feline, wez or similar.

EDIT: i haven't tried a pc1, just to point out.

Does it show ?

Here she is all finished (just needs a fret dress to be ready
She currently has a pair of Dimarzios that I had lying around as a temporary measure (Evolution & Super Dist) but if you wanted her I would swap out for BKPs of your choice. The 3 way switch does the auto coiltap (Petrucci style) in the middle position

She looks very striking though and sounds very good (Quite big - almost like a Les Paul)

Speaking of Les Pauls I also got my Lion flat-top Special finished too
Currently loaded with Mules

yes - you favour a big '58 style neck whereas the Special had more of a 60 neck profile
