I've noticed only today  that there are 2 different full-size humbucker designs: PAF design with magnet bar under them coils, and the single-coil design with magnet rods as pole pieces inside them coils (kinda like 2 singlecoils on 1 mounting plate: Progressive - Stag Mag™ SH-3 - Seymour Duncan/Basslines (http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/progressive/sh3_stag_mag/), many of them Rio Grande pickups.)
Could any one describe sonic differeces between these two designs please (comparing sound in standard series wiring)?

the tom anderson humbucker pickups apparently have this design
but they don't have Tim

well i dont kno of any tonal differences, but wizard pickups hav a pickup called manic which has a ceramic magnet AND 12 alnico 5 magnet polepieces!!! dont kno how it sounds but the description is insane

the idea is that you will get closer to true single coil sounds when you split the humbucker because singles are usually made with magnetic polepieces.
the problem is that it still doesnt sound like a true SC because it has another coil right next to it... but it doesnt sound like a true humbucker either because of the difference in magnets
Not saying they are bad pickups but whenever you try to get the best of both worlds it usually involves a compromise!!!
