Title: Ooops, just won my first Gibson SG
Post by: hunter on April 30, 2008, 05:28:03 PM
Guess I am going against the mainstream trend of getting a Mira, I just wanted an SG standard so badly!

Got it!

Looks nice! I'm not sure holydivers would work in it tbh. I tried my bridge holydiver in my sg and it sounded far too dark, I'm loving the riff raff bridge I've got in mine at the moment tho.
I even managed to get some Black Sabbath type tones with it at my last band practice, with my crunchbox boosting my cranked marshall it sounded awesome.

Hmm yeah I guess RRs would be the obvious/safe choice.

Guess I'll try stock, then go to BlackDog bridge/RY neck (got those flying around) and then take it from there. Can't wait now ...

Anyone know where to get a Maestro/Vibrola Trem? Seems none of the usual shops (WD, Allparts) stock them ...?

Nothing wrong with that, I've bought an SG (or two) since I got the Mira!  :D  Looks good!

I think you'd be best off with fairly low-output pickups, I'll be interested to see how the BD works out as I'm going to try mine in an SG.

As for the Maestro, no idea - I wonder if you could get one direct from Gibson?

You want Warpigs. Don't try to hide it, there's no shame.

Congrats for the SG, it looks sharp.

Holy Divers might not work, I don't know as I've never tried them in an SG, but for my 'style' (I make myself sound good :D) I have nailbombs and they're fantastic.

I was going to take the Vibrola off my 64 Standard and fit it on the 61 Reissue but it is not straightforward. The posts anchoring the stop tailpiece are spaced wider than the Vibrola so you will be faced with having to fill in the holes when you remove the stop tailpiece.

Looks in good condition - I'm sure you'll like it  :) . I went with the usual RiffRaffs in my 61, but my son has a Nailbomb in his.

Nice SG!

I'd say either traditional or all out power is best for SG's like Riff Raff or Warpig. Tim says mid output pickups like Black Dog and VHII don't work very well in SG's, though i can't remember the reasoning for it. I think it just goes muddy or mushy or something.
