Title: Step up / down transformers

Just a quick question.
Can anyone tell me if using a step up or step down transform has any effect on the tone of an amp?

I know that different type of tranny has an effect on the tone within the same amp.

I would have a look over at www.18watt.com (if it still exists) and have a look around there, they'll know.
