Title: Is a Nailbomb right for me? (sorry about the long post)
Post by: Simon D on September 04, 2005, 01:29:59 PM
Hi all,
I'm looking to replace the bridge pickup on my Epi Les Paul (currently a Kent Armstrong HRC-1 ceramic humbucker which is fairly hot - around 15k) The main sort of tone i'd be looking for is Zakk Wylde/Alter Bridge/Opeth type sound, but i also need to be able to get a good midrangey AC/DC type tone, as well as a Knopfler/blues sound on occasion. Also, it needs to sound decent when tapped. (Damn awkward, i know) The Kent Armstrong just sounds a bit uninspiring - not enough definition with distortion and a little dull clean. It also didn't quite have the amount of kick i need, and tends to get a little drowned by the neck pickup (an alnico Kent Armstrong which sounds pretty good). I'm after something at least as hot as what i currently have, with good definition and an organic kind of sound, nothing too sterile. I think the Nailbomb might be what i'm looking for, but i'm still not completely sure if its versatile enough. Also, being poor, i need to get this right first time.
Any advice anyone can give would be very welcome and appreciated.
Cheers,
Simon

Hi

I think the Nailbomb will do the job for you. I bought one last week and have been VERY happy with it. I have played other pickups with the similar output as the NB but this pickup has LOADS more tone and expression than others of its sort.

I very much doubt you'd be dissapointed with the NB.

I think the Nailbomb is perfect for what you're describing. I play AC/DC, Zakk type stuff and Alter Bridge with my Strat copy with a Nailbomb in the bridge and it's amazing. It covers so much ground. Cleans up REALLY nicely too. I'm poor too and I got it right first time, although I did have some help from Tim. His advice was spot on. Best to shoot Tim an email.

Hope this helps.

Don't worry. As I know, if you don't like the pickup you bought, you can either change it for another model or get your money back within two weeks. Satisfaction guaranteed. 8)
