It's like a Safari park in here today - lions every which way you look
Currently trying to install the bridge & wire up the elecs on Johnny Mac's Lion

Is this the one for Johnny Mac? Whoever it is one lucky son-of-a-gun!
-
Wow!
I'm in an exceptionally good mood today and it's all because I'm very, very, very, very, very, very excited about picking this up.
Jonathan thanks again for making an absolutely great looking guitar.
Now it's time for a new amp........
-
So you're the lucky the barsteward?
Fair play man! Whats the neck like on it?
-

Yeah, imagine a top like that in emerald burst! :D

1960's style Les Paul profile as I wanted something to contrast against my other guitars.
Last time I saw it the frets weren't in yet, but Jonathan says it's great and it sounded amazing on the phone this afternoon.

+1, that figuring is excellent!

I really like that quilt. But I agree with the above. It would look very cool in some sort of green single color or burst.
-
Beautiful job Jonathan. That is one excellent looking guitar.
-
Very nice top!
-
Looks superb just as it is to me - I'll never know why people knock quilted tops?! :P

I love the look of quilt maple. That's a beautiful looking guitar, Jonathan...
-
Honestly... rather dissapointed...
ONLY ONE PIC :o
As usual, something that I don't like, then I see something you have done, and I suddenly like it (quilt)
Beautiful guitar!
-
Love that quilt :)
-
Sweet baby jesus...
That guitar looks soooo good.
Bet she sings nicely too.
This sucks though, because now i have some major GAS :(
-
that is one of the most unusual quilts i have ever seen. GORGEOUS!! :D
-
I am away from the office for a few days . Back in the workshop on Tuesday - will post a few more pics then.
I agree about the dragon scales!
-
I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I don't like it. Sorry
I just don't like quilts on an LP. Actually, I don't like quilts period.......

Philistine!!!
Only joking. Quilt tops are a bit like Marmite.
We have similar tastes in amps though. I've just been in touch with Martamp for my new amp.
-
it sounded amazing on the phone this afternoon.
That is simultaneously soooo cool & also so bad that we do that " yeah, can you just let me talk to her"...it sounds like the guitar's been kidnapped

I'm hoping that being new around here will work as an excuse for my admission that ... I'd never been consciously aware of Feline guitars before. OK, I've seen some of the posts on here, but not really registered about the guitars themselves.
Prompted by the pic in the first post, I've just spent the best part of an hour (of my Saturday evening no less!), trawling through this site reading the various comments (and drooling over some of the pics) from Feline owners, reading the HC reviews, and looking at the Feline website.
Absolutely stunning.
An hour later, I can't remember seeing any Feline guitar that didn't make me think "I want it"!
I can't do much about that lust right now, but Feline are now on my "one day" list.
-
That looks cracking.
Well done to the maker and congrats to the new owner.
Jealous :o

Sorry for delay in getting these shots taken and posted , but here you go!

And here is a comparison of the wood with and without paint.
Note - we did apply some oil to the grain in the first picture to bring out the grain
This was prior to being carved...

I'm loving that!
-
That looks great.
Jonathan, you logo is different to other guitars of yours that I've seen... It was quite blocky before, now more scripted and elegant (a bit like the Tokai logo...) Is that perminant?
Mark.

A Stunner Jonathan.

I've seen both quite often, it seems that the elegant one is used on more classic guitars, LPs, Teles, etc. And the blocky one used on more brutalz guitars, RGs, explorers, etc.
But I could be talking out of my arse.
-
loving the neck join!

am lovin that

Logos
When I first started out I had a different script style logo, but very quickly I got too many people saying that I was just trying to clone Fender - which was far from the truth.
Kind of tricky in a way - we have a 6 letter name starting with an F with 2 letter E's and a tall letter in the middle
So Feline= Fender?
So at the time I took drastic steps to reinvent the branding
What I cam up with was the blocky italic logo
We had already been using the cats eyes as inlays but I came up with putting them in the ellipse (or rather a friend suggested it - thanks Dave)
So for a long time we used that and allowed it to become recognisable.
Over a number of years and through getting guitars reviewed in magazines etc the only criticism we got was that the block logo wasn't elegant enough on certain guitars.
The cats eyes logo however was becoming really recognised (not quite as much as the shape of a coke bottle or other international icons like the Mcdonalds M, but still easily recognisible as our trademark)
So I introduced the script logo for guitars where the blocky logo isnt so suited.
And it looks great on the centre of the large 3 a side headstock like on the Lion or on our Tabby or Panther models (TE & ST style).
We still use the blocky logo on guitars with smaller headstocks or where it is more suited - my Flying Vs have the blocky logo as it seems to fit a lot better
(http://felineguitars.com/spec_sheets/guitar_images/purple%20lion/purple-lion-headstock.jpg)
Some players have wanted just the cats-eye logo saying that it is easily recognised on it's own and better suits their style:
We allow customers to chose which of our logos they have when we build a guitar.
Matt for whom the above Quilted Lion is for just wanted the script one on its own for an old fashioned look
We also have a Southpaw logo that we use on selected left handed models
Here is a version of it taken from a t shirt design- the wording around the logo isn't there on the version we put on guitars

Excellent.
For what it's worth, I much prefer the more elegant script - I think that it suits your Lion perfectly.

Yeah, that neck joint is so elegant! :D

I really like that logo, it looks great on the LP style headstock.

Picked her up yesterday. Looks even better in the flesh!
First impressions are great, good set-up, light in weight and great sustain. I tested it against my old Les Paul Studio by just playing the low E on both guitars. It's really noticable just how much longer the Feline sustains a note for.
The Mules are great as well; much less muddy and more articulate than stock pickups in the Studio
Will try and post some clips in a few weeks when my new amp is ready from Martamp.
Thanks Jonathan!

Lucky man

holy cr@p!!
The recipe for financial ruin lies within this thread!
Absolutely stunning! And that's still not quite saying enough
-
Matt has his guitar now - came down on Saturday to collect
Think he will be a bit too busy playing for a few days to comment on here about it
I am looking forward to when he gets his new Martamp and starts making clips - nice stuff!

:?: Hypothetically speaking, could an existing LP or LP Jr neck joint be re-shaped like that, or is it a fundamentally different construction?
(I know it would be a total pain to do a partial re-finish)

Looks like the same neck joint for a Les Paul but carved, etc. me thinks the costs would be a little high.
-
Sadly not Phil as Gibson's tenon joing is somewhat different to ours
I fear that if we were to try:
1) We would uncover big gaps where the tenon goes into the body - whereas our tenon is full neck width
2) We would weaken the joint because Gibson use a short tenon while ours goes deep right under the neck pocket
-

Maybe worth X-Raying to check the joins?

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. I know (well, I think  ) on my Juniors the tenon is full-width, but it doesn't extend beyond the end of the neck.
Oh well, just a thought. Thanks Jon.
-
Just how far do your neck tenons go? Is it to Gibson's long neck spec, where its just through to the neck pickup, or is it right to the other side?
-
Ours go as far as the neck pickup pocket will allow
We dont go further than the neck pickup usually, but it is a deep and long tenon, and full neck width so it does help strengthwise.
I think Gibson started out a similar length - although thinner- at least on the treble side
