watch till the end, that went up earlier today and got taken down... but at the end.. new metallica clips
-
sounds good. :D
cant wait for the album
-
Slightly off topic but, yeah ... metallica.com ... remind me again who was one of the bands instrumental in having Napster took down?
NIN and Radiohead make a pile off of free-then-pay-for-the-rest independent internet music sales and suddenly Lars decides its not so bad after all as he realises he can buy another tennis court if they decide to allow MP3 downloads.
Pffff. Me and Metallica were over by '95. A shame, but there it is. Total flamebait, I apologise in advance :)
-
theirs always one to want to be flamed.. they can do what they went with their stuff.. same way you can. i dont think what radiohead did with in rainbows changed anything metallica were doing
-
Don't get me wrong, I agree that Metallica have the right to do what they want with their own music, I just think its a bit rich after having made such an end-of-the-world fuss over internet downloads to do a volte-face after a couple of other bands get a load of good press off of free downloads.
But heh ho, maybe I should be more forgiving :)
TBH, I never really got over Load; it still hurts like Jar Jar Binks.

excuse me being an idiot, but are you saying Load is good or bad?
Personally I can't stand it, not particularly a true metallica, and put me off the band in general, but several people in my year love it :? seriously: LOVE
-
load isnt thrash metal... but its a brilliant album

:!: :?: :?: :!: did you SEE the second star wars movie?

+1

I wonder how many of the people that LOVED "Ride the Lightning", "Mast of Puppets", or "...And Justice for All" loved Load?
-
Just to be clear, no, I didn't like Load. I know many people who did, which is fair enough - in the ears of the be...erm..behearer after all - but I just didn't get on with it at all. Or Reload. Then I stopped listening.
To continue with my metaphor and to quote Spaced (for bonus points):
"Ja Ja Binks makes the Ewoks look like f*ckin' ... Shaft."
-
To me, Metallica's best period was the 90s. The few "new songs" I've heard from them leaves me expecting the new album to be an incredibly bad attempt to rediscover their roots. Hand over the torch already.
-
80's was the best time for them I think. The black album had some magic, and was good, but it feels different, good or bad, I don't know. There were no commercially unsuccesful but GREAT filler tracks really

Yeah ... ME
i even like st anger to a point (if i convince myself its not a metallica album)
-
Yep, I loved everything up to and including the Black album.
To be fair, I never actually listened to St. Anger or anything else they did after Reload (was there something else?), but as Ilyti points out it all sounds a bit like an attempt to rediscover roots which aren't there any more. Maybe thats harsh as if they had never left them in the first place I probably wouldn't be writing this ... but I'm only human and damn it I'm entitled to my emotionally driven responses to these things ;)

i dissapear.
And the S&M concert was awesome the dvd is great in surround sound really loud. I think hetfields voice was at its best on this DVD
Oh yeah. I also thought Jar Jar Binks was a great character. the only good thing about the newer starwars films.

i loved it just as much, different band basically, but load is seriously underrated. top notch songs there.
-
anyone heard of an economics thing called the superstar effect?
well anyway because of it metallica could record an album of snail sounds, and it would still sell a billion
-
Anyways all of this aside.
What does everyone actually think of the new clips? Or is your hatred so much that you didn't give it a chance?
-
Sounds better than St Anger, but I'm curious to see how the sounds develop.
But the first new solo clips we hear of Kirk and what do we hear? WAH! wow! never heard him use that before. Some one should hit him with it and make him realise he doesn't have to use it for EVERYTHING.
-
Metallica is still a band?? I thought they died off after the Black album.
-
I like what I heard at the end of that clip.
I'm looking forward to the album.

 Point taken :) I just listened to the clip.
I guess it's promising, what little of it there is (at least there might be some Kirk lead playing this time around, just hope he's not forgotten how to!). We'll just have to wait & see how the end product turns out...

there ya go
-
The bit about halfway through sounds pretty good, great riffage. Kirk playing his only solo as usual  :P
Sounds MUCH better than St Anger at any rate.
-
I gave up on Metallica years ago, they're not even that good live anymore either - they sound like a Metallica covers band.

I think that too, and most people get moody at me. They change the songs in the same way live every time, sure they rotate the set list a bit, but its the same damn show
-
I thought it was OK.
Metal-Ayeka suffer from the same thing as any band that sticks around too long; the lose the cool underground vibe and become the establishment. That doesn't make them bad, just like Bono acting like a nob doesn't necessarily make U2 bad...
I loved Master of Puppets, And Justice For All, and the Black album. Load was OK. But I'll always listen to what they do.
BUT I STILL CAN'T STAND KIRK HAMMETTS PLAYING OR TONE!!!!!
Mark.
-
Meh. I need to hear a lot more than that to form an opinion.
They need to come up with something seriously good to make up for St Anger. It's the only record I've ever bought that I actually felt insulted by.
-
i don't love metallica, i think they are just meh (yes even the old stuff, though Ride the Lightning was pretty good)
EDIT: post # 666 (i know that doesn't really mean all that much on this forum)
