Title: who owns what pickups.
Post by: Transcend on May 12, 2008, 03:32:46 PM
Just a quick poll to find out which pickups sell better im gonna add as many as i can in im mainly just going to do humbuckers as i dont think itll enable me to have too many options.

If you own others p90s or singles for example just add them in your post.

Also post what styles you play

Only Black Dog out of that lot, but of course we can only respond to the poll once - so it'll be difficult to work out what's most popular.

thats a good point that i never thought about.

Hmm it would be better if there was a multiple choice poll thing on the board

No offence, but this poll is pretty pointless. For the reasons given earlier.

I've got Warpigs, Holy Divers and Mules, and have also owned a Nailbomb. I'm seriously tempted at the moment to get a Crawler for the bridge of my HSS guitar too. The GAS never ends...

i'm using a cold sweat in the neck and a borrowed miracle man in the bridge in my hurricane les paul (mahogany, maple top, set neck)

my holy diver is in my ex-guitar, but it's mine and it's still my favorite

i have some BKP'ed brazilian friends that don't post here:

- one has a warpig-7 set and a bridge painkiller-7 (they are homeless now, but they were installed in a ibanez rg (custom brazilian mahogany body, bolt on)
- other owns the miracle man i'm using and the neck mm in my ex-brazilian handcrafted les paul (brazilian mahogany, brazilian rosewood, imbuya top, set neck)
- other had a mississippi queen set in a custom lefty sg copy (all andiroba, one heavy as hell brazilian mahogany specie) but he sold the guitar recently
- other just installed a camo painkiller set in a dean mustaine VMNT1 (all mahogany, set neck)
- other just bought a bridge VH2 and a neck black dog for a custom made les paul (all brazilian cedar)

another friend just fell in love for my holy diver and it's probably ordering one set for his cort katana kx1

i think the winners in BKP forum are:
- mule
- warpig
- nailbomb
- rebel yell

Ok...
Les Paul Standard - Painkillers
SG Goddess - Mississippi Queens
SG Supreme - Warpigs
Japanese Stratocaster - Trilogy Suites (I got the name right for once :) )
Vintage Advance AV3 - PG Blues.

So, I'm sure you'll sympathise when I tell you I've had to play unplugged for the last five weeks... :(

It would be easier to tell you what pickups I don't have, but since this asks what you have, here goes:

Unpotted AII Stormy Monday's - 1967 335
AII Stormy Monday/2 Sultans - HSS strat
PG Blues - 1986 '57 darkback Goldtop Les Paul
AII Mules - Raven West PRS Hollowbody Clone
AIV Mules - PRS Artist II
AV Mule/AIV SM - Zemaitis Pearl Front clone
Riff Raff/AIV Stormy Monday - Chambered LP
VHII Set - deciding where to put them - out on loan at the moment
Black Dog set - 1953 '58 Les Paul conversion
Emerald/AIV Mule - Zemaitis Metal Front clone
Abraxas Set - 1979 Hamer Sunburst
Holy Diver/2xTrilogy Suites - Flamed Redwood superstrat
Miracle Man set - Warmoth PRS clone
Nailbomb/Cold Sweat - Ibanez with Warmoth neck
Nailbomb set - Warmoth Mockingbird
Warpig/MQ - Richwood Explorer
Painkiller - not my sound - TO has it and i will be building a guitar for him with it
Crawler/2xP91's - PRS EG 4
Rebel Yell set - 1990 PRS Standard 24
Apache set - 1957 Strat
Apache set (all with baseplates) - Swamp Ash Warmoth Strat
Apache set - AV magnets - Bravewood 57 strat   under construction
Rebel Yell/2xMother's Milks - Bravewood Strat
Irish Tour set - hollowbody Strat
MQ/Slowhand/Mini-Mule - Custom Walnut guitar
P-90 rewind - 1960 LP Special
Pig-90 - LP Junior clone
Blackguard Flatpole set - Warmoth Tele
Brown Sugar bridge - 1957 Tele (BKP'd Epiphone mini-HB in the neck)
Piledriver Bridge/Slowhand Neck - 1959 Esquire
P-Bass - 1966 P-bass
J-Bass Set - Bravewood 62 Jazz Bass
P-91 Set - Wez V SG - still under construction

From this you can see the only ones I don't have are the Sinner, Yardbirds, Country Boy and Boss sets, though I have played a,, but the Sinner.

I'm surprised you haven't got a Boss set, Phil.

Isn't that the set Tim recommends for a Roy Buchanan tone?  If I was looking for Tele pickups that would probably be my first port of call.

I played the Boss set at LGS one year but then the Blackguards came out and I prefered the sound of them.  There are a little fatter than the Boss set, and I really like the neck pickup in the BG's.

My guitars i am holding onto:

Fanned fret LP type thing - Mule/Manhattan
HSS limba/maple guitar - Crawler/Mothers milk's
Explorer Pro  w/Kahler - Holy diver

but i reckon i am going to have to do something with Riff raffs for myself soon... also reckon i need a new tele with actual tele pickups rather than a dual hum tele like i usually make them

Miracle Man bridge at present.
Next stop, not sure just yet but possibly a ceramic warpig... need to discuss this with Tim in due course. There's time to worry about that, though!

Since we're naming which pickups and the guitars they're in, I've got:

Rebel Yell bridge/Abraxas neck - Gibson The Paul SL (probably for sale soon)
Riff Raff - Gibson SG-X
Black Dog bridge/Stormy Monday neck - Edwards Flying V
Crawlers - Edwards "Jeff Beck" LP
BKP-91 - MIJ Epiphone LP Junior

Next BKP will likely be a MQ neck for my Tokai SG, and I'll try it with a few different bridge pickups.
