As of next month im gonna have 4 guitars.
Ive recently bought on ebay an alder frankenstrat clone body that has gotta be fitted with a VHII really. I need to judge how good the neck that is being supplied with it fits before i spend more cash on it tho. it may turn out to be a doozy.
Ive got an OLP MM1 (basswood wolfgang clone. maple fingerboard.) with a cr@p tremolo and stock cheap pickups fitted. A new wilkinson trem is in the post. This guitar plays great but pups sound uninspiring. The trem feels a bit dodgy so im replacing it. Creaky and tuning problems.
Ive got a stock 2007 Fender black with maple fingerboard USA strat (dunno what the body is made of. i think its swamp ash??). Ive decided i dont really like singlecoils in my guitars. i love the way the guitar plays so ive decided to get a black tom delonge style 1 bridge humbucker scratchplate for it. im gonna route it for a bridge humbucker.
Ive also got my eyes on a black/grey PRS Singlecut SE. This a mahogany body guitar. I cant judge the pickups in that yet though.
I was wondering what pups would give me a nice spread of BKP loveliness. I like all kinds of classic and modern rock/metal and play around with all kinds of stuff.
Alder frankenstrat: VHII for sure. It would be rude not to.
Fender USA strat. Holy Diver? From what ive read its a real great pickup that has nice clean sound too. This guitar was my biggest outlay so it deserves great clean and overdrive.
OLP MM1. Basswood. what would spice this guitar up nicely? i would be looking for something completely different. something for those vintage moods, but different to the VHII and HD. Bridge and neck places available in this guitar.
PRS SE Singlecut. Mahogany. This will be my metal monster, but it cannot be a one trick pony. Cleans and overdrive must both be mind blowing.
Its likely that the VHII will be the first purchase, but it depends on how good the guitar turns out to be.
:D After these buys my guitar buying addiction must end, so these babies must be the best they can ever be. I like a good spread of pickups for my endless noodling.

OLP: Mississippi Queen?
PRS: Warpig?

would the warpigs not look a bit rough in a prs? has anyone got any fitted that i could see a pic of?

You can get uncovered Warpigs, which look pretty classy. Here's a pic of my Warmoth custom with a set.

Also, as far as I'm aware, you won't need to route the Strat - US Standards are pre-routed to take a humbucker in the bridge.
Warpigs would suit the PRS well I think - they certainly aren't one-trick ponies, and have a great clean sound.

well well well. i just checked and you are correct :D
that makes me a very happy man!! that routing business was the only bit worrying me.

just ordered the holy diver for the strat :D

I think you could install a Miracle Man set for the PRS - its the tightest pickup (and heaviest!) i've ever played and the cleans you get (especially from the neck) are actually really nice!
I have a set in my Les Paul which is mahogany bodied as well and it suits the guitar perfectly
-
I'd say Miracle Men in the PRS too.
What about Crawlers or Rebel Yells in the OLP?

here ya go. not the greatest pic though, oh and its not a single cut, but its a PRS

that looks simply beautiful my friend! :)

Doesn't the 5 way selector switch on custom 24s annoy you? I would get it change to a 3 way toggle if i got a 24 (which i'm considering getting/modding!)

as i thought. they look awful (sorry).

I'd say Miracle man or Rebel Yell in the PRS, and Crawlers and/or maybe a Rebel Yell in the OLP.

i heard the cleans were not that great on the MM.

+1 for the miracle man
the clean tone isn't great compared to the alnico BK pickups, but it's better than any other ceramic pickup i've played (except the bill lawrence usa l500xl)
it doesn't distort, so it's fine, just not as detailed as a holy diver, for example
with the holy diver i can play clean even on distorted channels with the boost pedal turned on, only by rolling off the volume knob
with the miracle man, i have to turn off the boost, but the pickup by itself is clean

off topic, but i ordered a holy diver today. any idea how long they take to arrive? are they stocked or made to order? im excited :D

Yeah the clean sound on the ceramic (bridge) MM isn't great but i don't really use the bridge for cleans... The neck an Alnico pickup

yeah it is kind of annoying, but i got scared off changing to a 3way toggle when i read that you have to make the hole bigger to fit one in, knowing my luck i would make it too big and stuff it up

no need to apologies, different strokes for different folks.

Pigs in a PRS seems to be an "opposites attract" situation, at least for me. Looks cool, and I'd love to see more pics. Afterall, "more pics" rhymes with "Warpigs".

holy diver has arrived!! :D
