Tried one of these today through an Engl 4x12....it was awesome! Amazing tone! Would I be right in saying it's like Powerball Lite, without that hyper-maniacal channel? Or am I talking male genitalia?
Anyway, I know it's only a 50 but it would more than service my needs, I had the volume so low and any higher it would have blown my nuts off!
Anyone else got one of these?

"only a 50" Riiiiight :P
I think it sounds totally different to a powerball personally - But they're good little amps for rock, Jack bauer has one if I remember right (the forum member that is).

There have been some damn fine clips recorded with Engl Screamers on this forum which leads me to believe it's a very good amp. I don't have one either, I went for an Engl Savage 120 head
There's little difference, volume wise, between a 50 & 100 - it's certainly nowhere near double as people seem to believe. My Recto 50 can go to the threshold of pain just as easily as my Savage 120...

Yeah man it's simple and does a damn good job. I have a pedal if I need any more gain but tbh I was using a cheapo RG to test it with stock pups and it was doing fine with about 3/4 gain on the lead channel so I think with my Nailbombed Warlock it'll kick ass.

still haven't got as far as trying a thunder lol, there's always something else i want to try more in any shops which happen to have them...

I always thought the Thunder was identical to the Screamer except for the switching/channel options?
-
Maybe, I've really not seen a lot of Engl's, they're pretty rare down my way. Nearest dealer is 25 miles, heh. I'll have a gander on the interweb.

I've got the combo version of the thunder 50 and I love it, its got more than enough gain for what I need it for, I mainly play alterbridge, Chevelle, Tool and Deftones type stuff.
The only problems I have with it is that the clean channel doesn't stay perfectly clean once you go past around 2 o'clock on the gain and it can be a little bright with some pickups, my treble never goes past 1 o'clock.
It also likes to have a bit of mids dialled in (11 o'clock onwards) any less and things get a little less defined, no were near muddy but it just loses 'something'. So for the very scooped tones I use my MXR 10-band eq in the effects loop.
It also responds very well to my wylde overdrive as a boost just to get the extra gain for the very gainy metal stuff, whilst keeping the clean channel clean.
All in all it an awesome amp and the only reason I would change it is if I came into some money to be able afford an Invader or Powerball.

Mine is on its way to a friend of mine, but only because of the purchase of an Invader 150 :D
The Thunder 50 still held its own against many an amp, much more expensive, and it is a fantastic little thing. I see no problems with getting the Thunder, it was my main one for 5 and a half years, and got me through 3 bands :)
