Well done Manchester United! :D
-
I don't really care who won, but I feel a bit sorry for Chelsea and Avram Grant. They've turned a season which started very badly into a very successful one - but ended up with nothing to show for it.
And poor old Avram's probably going to get sacked, even his own supporters don't really like him... basically just because no-one could match Mourinho in their eyes. And because he looks like Baron Greenback.
-
Still and all.
Ronaldo scoring first, a draw at half and full time, United winning on penalties...
I'd like to thank the lovely chaps at Paddy Power for the generous odds that will fund at least a good solid weekend of boozing.
-
Good work United. I don't care about Chelsea very much, but I did want them to win - too bad.
Great game anyway!
-
Disgraceful refereeing.
Should've put the game to bed between the second half and end of extra-time.
John Terry slipped for the penalty.
Even Ryan Giggs admitted they were FORTUNATE TO WIN!
Overall absolutely gutted.
(I'm a Chelsea supporter if you hadn't noticed).
-
I was wondering how long it would be before I heard a Chelsea mn blame it on Terry slipping. :p I know, it was awful. The way they made him take that penalty on a different and more slippy pitch than everyone else. A disgrace. Poor John Terry, poor Chelsea.
Then again, Terry wouldn't have had to take the penalty if Drogba wasn't a complete spanner. SAadly, though, he is.
-
I don't get the comments about the referee - I watched the game and I thought that the guy did well - what are Chelsea fans unhappy about? Drogba getting sent off or is there more? IMHO I thought that Ballack was lucky not to join him for his constant complaining.
JT was unlucky when he slipped and you have to feel for the guy.
Mike

Doesn't the losing side always think the ref was a disgrace?
My mate in work is a big Chelsea fan. Talk about a long face - it's like sitting opposite Desert Orchid!
-
Phil - why? Has you colleague got grey hair? :-)

I'm not blaming our defeat on Terry slipping, it was just unlucky. A piece of much bad luck we had all night.
Drogba was a twit for slapping vidic, but there was ZERO consistency. Hargreaves shoved the referee in the back, Frank Lampard was slapped across the face in the same incident, and Ferdinand karate-kicked, studs-up, centimeters over Joe Cole's face in the penalty area. It was absolutely farcical.
Mike- lots of crazy decisions over corners/throw-ins e.t.c. which were blatantly obvious and were given to United. I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, but when Ronaldo can literally hoof the ball straight off the pitch, 50 yards high and wide and receive a CORNER, then that is bad officiating.
If you feel Ballack should have been sent off, then you would have to say the same about several other players from both sides. Owen Hargreaves constantly in the referees face and Ronaldo asking for harsher punishments of our players (as usual). On top of that you have Alex Ferguson, media darling, screaming and pointing at the referee as he came on to the pitch for the second half, and nothing was done, which is disgraceful whatever way you look at it.
And we hit the woodwork 3 times. Just not our night.
As I said, Ryan Giggs' own words "We were fortunate to win". Says it all really. :D
-
Man UTD were not fortunate to win, we dominated the first half and we should have been 2, maybe even 3-0 up, Chelsea looked dead and buried. Then they got a lucky goal with about 3 deflections and the keeper slipping against the run of play. Chelsea dominated the 2nd fair play but that makes it even 2 halfs each. Extra time didn't really go to anyone it was fairly stalemate. And penalties are mostly luck so overall i don't think any of the teams deserved to win it more than the other.
I am a Man UTD supporter but that's how i saw it from a non Man UTD supporting perspective and that's how my mates and the commentators saw it who don't support Man UTD.
CHAMPIONS!!
:D :D
Edit: Oh and btw, the refereeing was disgraceful. Chelsea were diving at every opportunity and Man UTD barely got a free kick in the 2nd half.
-
Phil - why? Has you colleague got grey hair? :-)
He has, actually - grey hair and a very long white face!
I must admit, with the final taking place in Moscow and all, I had a suspicion that Mr Abramovich might have, er, influenced the officials somehow (not that I'm suggesting anything underhand, of course...). That certainly didn't turn out to be the case.
-
I actually thought Man Utd were going to lose, it looked - to me - that Chelsea was dominating, the fact they hit the woodwork showed they could but were just REALLY unlucky. When Ronaldo missed his penalty I was like - It's all over! Say it ain't so!
Then Man Utd won, and my dad, sister and me in the kitchen were all standing and screaming our heads off. The shot by Giggs was awesome, shows that Chelsea didn't always have bad luck. :D

I would respond with a counter-argument, but by saying "Chelsea were diving at every opportunity and Man United barely got a free kick in the 2nd half" you have quite clearly demonstrated you have no idea what you are talking about.

depsite my last name i really cant be bothered with football, or any other sports for that matter....
didnt even realise there was a big match on untill i heard a lot of shouting last night from the neighbours, and obviously every one has been telling me about it today.
-
Its a gaaaaaaaaaame!
Its funny how its rare to see from the fans: "yeah, well they beat us, but they played a good game and deserved it"
However, you here the players say it, and then the fans of both sides start a debate about it.
-
Its funny how no one has mentioned either of the keepers yet. It if weren't for a few great saves by Cech, then it could've all been over for Chelsea in the first half. And Van Der Sar's penatly saving greatness saved Ronaldo's skin, as I personally don't think that Man U could have won the shootout without him.
-
Would that be Wez Van Der Sar then?

Haha you're only saying that because you lost. Considering everyone else i have spoken to has said the same points to you just being a sore loser.
-
EDIT: Ah bugger, can't post the pic.

Everyone you have spoken to has said Chelsea were "Diving at every opportunity and Man United barely got a free kick"?
This is a genuine question: Did you actually watch the match?
-
They were all a big bunch of diving nancy boys, it wasn't just one team
Fairly good match though. Man U had the first half, Chelsea had the second, overall I think Man U had a slight edge in Extra Time (although I was quite drunk by then, so could well be wrong).
Unfortunate in Pens as I was hoping Ronaldo would end up crying and that makes me very happy. I think the ghost of Alf Ramsey must have tripped Terry before the pen.

Why Sir Alf? Matt Busby, surely?

Wez - I know - just couldn't resist the link to VDS...
Shocking picture of Ashley Cole trying to head Ferdinand in the nuts there, Sambo - surprised that the ref let him get away with that!

  It is a bit strange-looking isn't it?
P.S. It's actually Joe Cole, but I'll let you off.
-
Joe Cole played on so the ref played advantage there was nothing wrong with that refereeing.
Edit: You can't play on and try and score, miss your shot on goal and then claim you should have had a free kick or penalty that's not how it works.
-
Apologies I wrote Ashley Cole when I meant Joe Cole - easy mistake to make..... :P

Well obviously. But if it's a bookable offence, then even after advantage has been played the referee can show a card. And please don't try and tell me that it wasn't at LEAST a yellow card. (Which, by the way, would be his second, and he would be sent off).
-
Sambo, now I might have missed this, but you are not a Chelsea fan by any chance?

It's all excuses, just accept that it was a fair game. You're acting like Chelsea were all little angels who don't dive and like they deserved to win more than Man UTD.

Point out more than 1 or 2 incidents of a Chelsea player diving. I'm pretty sure there wasn't any (from either side).
Anyway you won the game. I'm not making excuses for losing, as there is no guarantee we would have won even if every decision had gone in our favour.
My gripe is just that the refereeing was poor and very inconsistent, and there are several incidents that were simply wrong. Not even open to interpretation just flat-out wrong.
And yep, I do feel Chelsea deserved to win more than United. I'm not suggesting it was a whitewash and the result is unjust; it was close, but I personally feel we were the better side over the course of the match. The fact that we had many more shots than you highlights how we were, overall, more dominant.
And as I said before, your own player- Ryan Giggs - said you were 'fortunate to win the game'.
Anyway, that's just my personal take on things.
-
Well obviously your take is different to myn.
-
Well obviously your take is different to myn.
Obviously. Yours is also different to Giggs and Van Der Sar's takes as well.
:D
-
In the meanwhile I had better things to do than think who should win and who dived for the olympic gold medal....
VHII or Rebel Yell humbucker? Hell in the penalties I was thinking about colour options.
Result; Man United won and I chose a Zebra VHII....
Score one to Posh.

We won, end of.

Yes, you won. I don't remember saying anything to the contrary. :?

If there's one thing less endearing than being a sore loser, it's being a sore winner!
:D
(PS I didn't even watch it, I was having a meeting in the pub with a collaborator, that's how much I care about footy!)
