Title: country boy pickups
Post by: steve gray on May 23, 2008, 08:38:30 PM
so i got these the other day.. I enjoy the bride pick up a lot. i can get a nice gritty surf tone out of it with out high end harshness..
but the neck pick up doesnt really do it for me, so i am considering replacing that with a P90...
any thoughts on how well this would work?

I am surprised that you are not keen on the neck pickup. I loved the rounded bell like tone with mine but each to his own I suppose. I  would suggest perhaps giving the neck a little time to grow on you. I know  a few Tele  players who never use the neck pup on its own which I find bizarre. The two together sound terrific ( to my ears).Having said that, I have played a couple of Teles with P90s and they have sounded fantastic.

What exactly about the neck pickup do you not like?  Can you give a point of reference of how you like your tele neck pickup to sound?

Depends how you wire it up, the tone should be connected to the volume pot.

If you want a p90 in the neck the easiest route might be the mississippi queen neck and a humbucker sized pickguard.
