Hi, I’m Ken and I’m new here. :)
So I was wondering what other instruments do you out there play apart form guitar.
I come from a very musical family and I play piano/keyboard and a bit of saxophone, and the harmonica (but not very well)
-
Welcome to the forum Ken - I'm sure you'll love it, I know I do.
As far as instruments go I only play guitar - I really couldn't afford to get into another instrument!
-
I don;t play them as much as I used to (mostly as I can;t get all my stuff in a flat) but I used to gig a great deal playing Digiredoo, djembe, bougarabou, ashiko, conga etc
NB. I can actually play these things, I'm not just a middle class kid that went to Glastonbury once and got carried away with being "cultured" :P
-
Welcome Ken. You mean there are other musical instruments besides the guitar?
-
Orchestral Percussion (Grade 8 Distinction) - Xylophone/Marimba/Timpani
Piano (Grade 7)
Classical Guitar (Grade 6)
Used to play the cello, got to about grade 3 maybe.
-
Skin Flute and Hairy Bagpipes.
Just kidding!!

Holy cr@p your good. :o

Kellar^, What grade are you? I'm a Grade 8 destinction man.
-
TV remote and Computer... its arguable that I 'play' the guitar though
-
lol, I forgot Guitar hero and rock band dont count. :)
-
Asides from guitar I play Bouzouki (Tuned G'DAE, which I call 'Australian tuning'.). It's like a bass mandola but with a different scale length. I tune mine differently though (in 5ths).
I can also do some synthesizer/sequencer stuff providing my performance is cleaned up in a midi programme such as cubase and I have a good bank of sounds.
I can sing too but I'm not overly confident in my voice.
I can play tambourine and various bits of hand percussion but I chose not to as I'm not an octopus and what with playing the guitar that becomes somewhat inhibitive.
-
Just guitar and bass for me. Bass is my best instrument and where I am most at home but I play guitar in the band I am in. I do sing too and have got better over the years.
-
My main instrument is actually my voice, but my secondary is Guitar. I also play Bass, some keys, a tiny teensy bit of drums and I also dabble in anything else I can get my hands on.
I have been known to be fairly good at Violin, Cello, Double Bass, Bugle, Trumpet and a couple of others when I first picked them up at college. That means I've been able to hold a tune first time around on all these things in little jam sessions. If a mic or Guitar weren't laying around then I would pick up the nearest thing in the music department and give it a shot, sometimes with pleasantly surprising results, lol.
-
bass, atari, synthesiser, record decks (if they can be called an instrument)
-
I can play drums but only basic stuff. I want to learn bass but I find it really hard compared to normal guitar :(
I used to be play piano but I stopped because it was boring :\
-
Played a bit of piano and keyboards, but lately it hasn't really been an interest to me. Might become one if I had a decent instrument but lately my focus has been on guitar stuff.
-
well guitar is my main thing, I used to play piano/keyboard and I'm not bad at drums, and I can manage pinch harmonics on my mates bass, and very bad off tune jingle bells on a violin
-
I have a bass but can't really play it. So just the same as my guitars really.
Apart from that I had a couple of years' piano lessons (totally forgotten how to read music) and a very brief dabble on the recorder in school - I was the best in the class at that but only, I suspect, because everyone else practised even less than I did.
Always fancied having a go at drums but it'll never happen.
-
I'm mainly a guitar player. I also have a bass but I'm definately not a bass player.
I also play the harmonica. Like the guitar, it is easy to learn but difficult to master.
-
Piano and Viola, as well as guitar. Been a while, though - my sister now has my viola (she's a violin/viola maker), as I've had no time to keep it up in the past few years. Shame really.
Keep it hardcore, people :D
-
Been playing the drums for 5 years. I got a Roland kit, but it still manages to wake the neighbours!
It was only last year that I've only gotten serious with guitars. I also got some keyboards, but I don't really play them.
-

Man, this post is ventruing in to bad territory.

Whilst "proper" drums may never happen, have you looked at getting yourself a copy of Rock Band or waiting for Guitar Hero 4 to come out? Both games come with a drum kit, so that might satiate your thirst for the moment.
-

Why not? You'll only end up regretting it if you dont give it a go :)
Could always get some V-drums or whatever the roland ones are called so you can play at reasonable volume and take up less space.
-
I don't think the Rock Band or Guitar Hero kits would cut it, I want that physical experience of being surrounded by drums - the whole Neil Peart thing!
V-Drums might be an option, if I ever move house... at the moment I haven't even got room for a snare. Not cheap though, are they?
-
I used to love playing my little keyboard, it was quite surprising that I could learn how to play songs faster than I can on guitar. I need to get another one.
And of course the recorder, who doesn't know how to play that? :D
-
Guitar, bass, button-key accordian, bagpipes, a tiny bit of flute and a smattering of harmonica (which, to me, is just a very small accordian).
Also, I take my obligatory bash at playing the bodrhán as well.
-
Pretty much Guitar only.
I sometimes play Bass, but I'm not really a bass player - more of a guitarist who occasionally switches to 5 strings to complete his own recordings... ;)
I had Drum lessons & used to play drums quite a lot, but haven't sat behind a kit for nearly 10 years.
Also played Piano as a kid, but gave up taking lessons after a bad skiiing accident, never took it up again, & now I couldn't play if my life depended on it
-
I also play Piano, Dulcimer, Bass, Drums, Percussion (including the triangle), Kazoo, Xaphoon, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxaphone and I also sing, I got Grade 8 music Theory (pass) in 2005.
-
I used to be able to bang some drums and also play Wicky & Beer on the tin whistle. Other than that, I can't even play with myself in time (typical drummer hey  ).
So yeah, only guitar really and I'm cr@p at that
-
Got my Grade 8 Distinction for piano a few years ago when I was 14, and that was the last exam I did, even though my biggest improvement I made was between then and now.
Started guitar when I was 14 as well and got to the stage where I could almost comfortably play to the standard of the Under a Glass Moon solo... i could alt. pick runs in sextuplets at 160bpm... but its not all about technique lol
they're the only 2 instruments i consider myself half-decent at, but I had a go at cello a few years ago.
But all this was before my index finger screwed itself up, which happened about 6 months ago :(
-
I can play Drum Kit From Hell :D
-
Used to take Saz lessons at a PKK joint near Frankfurt docks, can still play a few tunes. Didn't get no distinctions smiley smiley though.
-
breaking news! last night i taught myself Ghost of Perdition on recorder :D 8) awesome instrument
