Title: Educational versions of software?

I’m currently researching the purchase of some software (Steinberg Halion 3.1) and noticed that some sites are offering educational discounts on products. Since my wife is a teacher and may be eligible I have a couple of questions for anyone that has experience of this –

Are the educational versions of software the same as the retail version or are there limitations on them?

Would the software be licensed for educational use only?

Any input gratefully received.

Yes and yes - you basically get a discount on the standard price as long as it is for educational use only..... But if you were to put it on your laptop that you used at school and happened to take that laptop home......

I got Logic Pro with a MASSIVE educational discount, and it's just Logic Pro. Nothing different about it to the regular Logic Pro.

Where was that from? Best price I've found so far is on Studica.com - £151 inc Vat and shipping.

Usually they are limited in that you can't upgrade/crossgrade to the next version for a fee as you usually can with the full version.

With Stienberg products, there are prices on their website. To get those, all you need to do is buy from any Steinberg dealer (best to phone them before going in, simply so they can give Steinberg a ring and check what's what if they don;t do it often) and be able to prove that you are elligible, meaning taking your wife with you with something that proves she's a teacher - She may have to be a music teacher, I'm not sure, I've only ever actually run the deals through for students - and that's it.

It'll be the full version in a slightly different labeled box, same as an NFR would be. Chances are they will have to special order it though, cause most places don;t keep education editions in stock.

see if your wife can order it for delivery at the school - that usually helps with credibility
