hi all. i want to replace my neck gibson p90 in my bfg... which of the BKP p90s are right for the type of genres i play?
genres - mainly classic/hard rock
-
Greetings :)
What 'bucker do you have in the bridge? The stock Burstbucker 3?
If so, I'd say a regular P-90 would be your best bet. The BB3 has a vintage output and an Alnico II magnet, as does the BKP90. The hotter P90s probably won't balance well with the humbucker, and they use Alnico V magnets which will give a different tonality.

Yep its the stock BB3 in the bridge.
Will the BKP90 alnico 2 magnet be hotter than the gibson p90?
thanks for the help btw!

I don't know if it'll be hotter to be honest, I would imagine it would be a similar output.
If you're wanting a hotter P90 in the neck, I think you'll need a hotter bridge pickup too as I think you'll find they won't balance that well...

Thanks for the help so far, whats a hotter bridge pickup? for hard rock early metal probably.
-
Maybe something like a BKP91 in the neck and a Black Dog? Or if you want to get hotter than that, a BKP92 and a Nailbomb?
Give us some band/player tones you're aiming for, that should narrow things down a bit.
-
Bands i like - GNR, AC/DC, Early Metallica, Hendrix, Cream, Zeppelin.

If you're after a hotter neck pickup than your current one, then a BKP91 in the neck and Black Dog in the bridge should sort you out nicely I think!
You can always give BKP a ring (or drop them an email) and get a recommendation from them too :)

Ok thanks a bunch for the help!

I'm not at all sure about this, but I wonder if the BKP-91 neck might overpower the Black Dog bridge a little?
I haven't got a BKP-91 neck, but the BKP-91 bridge is really quite pokey. And in terms of "loudness" (ignoring DC resistance and all that) my Black Dog bridge isn't significantly more powerful than the Stormy Monday neck it's paired with.

i'm sure if BFG explains they are a set, Tim could do a calibration.
FWIW - it does sound like a pretty cool guitar you're putting together!

What's Tim's email? I'll send one to him for some suggestions.
Thanks all =)
